The date for our first overseas motorhome adventure has finally arrived. Having got the Rufty in mid-2022 we have learned the ropes from scratch with a multitude of UK outings over about 90 nights, and now we’re ready to go further afield.

We travelled from North Wales to Newhaven today (crossing choice prompted by Lenny HB thank you) and after reading the many tips so wonderfully provided by this group, decided to park overnight in the ferry queue ready for the 07:00 hr departure tomorrow. We needn’t have worried as we were far from the only ones doing this.

We have just had a quality burger and chicken strips at The Hot Spot Burger and Grill, just beyond the flyover, on a recommendation on here. Good shout. And a non-Funster benefitted as he wandered up to us for a chat just as we were heading that way so we took him with. And so word spreads… 👍🏻

Our ‘plan’ is to head steadily to Spain then follow the coast around to Portugal then cross-country back to France and coastwise back up to Dieppe over six weeks. We have a few places marked to see but anything we don’t see this time we can see next time, same if we don’t get as far as Portugal.

Following a hot tip yesterday from scousebird, thanks Helen, we’ll be taking a look around Dieppe on arrival, so there’s the first day’s plan changed already. 🙂

Continental adventures here we come!
No longer a non-funster! Thanks for the intro, Backlanes! And bon voyage.

Hi Julian! Welcome to the Fun! You’ll find lots of great folk on here with good advice and info.
I wonder if I get a referral fee… 🥸

It was a pleasure to meet you on Saturday. I hope your tour is a success.

We are in Biarritz now for a couple of days, big storm, rain and gales.

Knocked up at 5am by the port staff to move forward for processing, low stress, friendly staff here. By gum there’s a lot of motorhomes here!
We're due to go from Newhaven in August on the way to Ile de Re. The number of motorhomes is probably due to being considerably cheaper than Dover and particularly the Tunnel.
Have a good trip.

I was looking at orange.fr holiday pass, gets a good write up; even asked a jeun’homme in Leclerc if they sold them. Sadly not it seems.

Alençon on Monday, motorhome-sized car park on Bd de la République just south of the river, handy for stroll into centre. Monday is closing day in Alençon, one cafe open only plus the Basilica which is worth a look, as are some of the ancient buildings.

And a handy boulangerie on the way out of town south provided a tasty lunch https://maps.app.goo.gl/3kWirhxnF9EC58cy5?g_st=ic

Hop skip and a jump, a CCP site at St Cyr near Poitiers (extra pack to get same day booking) and a riverside public car park in Langon (partying revellers till late but friendly enough) and we’re in Biarritz already!

You’ve got to love France: Sunday closed, Monday closing day, Wednesday 1st May Labour Day public holiday, good job we stocked up on Tuesday…
Hmm but the food and drink. Yum!

We stayed on the other CCP aire three weeks back. Whilst walking round Lac Mouriscot, I noticed one of the houses had a crest with a whaling theme to it. Took a pic but camera battery is on charge atm so no illustration.

When you return to the Dieppe region ,ther is an excellent " Aire de Camping Car " at 'Le Treport' ,walking distance into some of THE BEST fish restaurants (straight off the quay/trawlers ) .Card entry/exit and ALL services included !!
What kind of card would that be ? Newbie. Newhaven to dieppe in July, first euro trip.

Bilbao next. Municipal aire is big, very busy, first come first served, be there by midday, really friendly staff, views over city. 58 bus to city from outside aire or in case of strike (!) 397 steps down to town. And back up!! Casco viejo, Guggenheim gallery, etc. A lot to take in and enjoy.
