That’s annoying!

Used to be 4x the value.

I wouldn’t mind but they are keeping their diesel prices sky high too.

It’s not going to be worth the bother anymore for the tunnel vouchers. :-(

Where is that notice? I've just looked in the app under eating out and there's nothing there.

Hubby has found something relating to 14th June 2022 when vouchers were mentioned as 2x value if spent on mobile phones, I wonder if this notice was therefore relating to that and not meant to be shown but done in error?

Either that or they were doing a test notice and it was accidentally seen before it was meant to be.

I couldn't see it at all so went to the app store and updated it and then could see it, unfortunately the 'Find out more link' just takes you to the usual pages with no mention of the change. Might have to get MSE onto it.

I couldn't see the message either, until I updated my app like Minxy and there it was :(

Very annoying that they are reducing it again.

I will have to change our vouchers up before 14th June for tunnel and then potentially hold off booking for the 6 months of the voucher life.

It's getting to the point of barely being worth it. A different reward card might give us better benefits in the future.

As inflation bites, we spend more so at the current rate have been getting more clubcard points. Inevitable I suppose that as this accumulates it doesn't add up for the providers. The alternative would be to reduce the value of the points per pound spent, which I think is what Sainsburys have done with Nectar.

Meanwhile, sign up for a Chase bank account (phone app based only) and spend everything, and I mean everything for a year on their debit card. At 1% cashback what's not to like, even if you discontinue the account after. No need to close your existing account, just run it alongside. Better return than the Tesco Clubcard Credit account even when it was triple value rewards, let alone if they drop to two.

Just arrived as an email - down to 2x from 14 June. We’re planning on crossing late August so will exchange in good time for 14 June.

Same, just had the email.

Best get my vouchers changed for tunnel booking for our October holiday.

Going to 2x confirmed but valid for longer if changed up in time:
Here's how our Clubcard Reward Partner scheme is changing
From 14 June**, when you exchange your Clubcard vouchers for a Reward Partner code, they’ll be worth up to 2x as much, not up to 3x the value, as they are now.
To give you extra time to decide when to use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers with Reward Partners, we’re extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes ordered from 17 March until 13 June so that they’re valid for 12 months†, rather than the usual 6 months. So don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to use them at their current value before we make the change.

And 3% on their linked savings. Also a good card for using abroad. No additional foreign use charges. Been using Chase for a year.

What's annoying is I've just got a new 0% purchase credit card from Tesco specifically so I could benefit from the long term 0% but also to be able to collect points, I could've looked at a cashback credit card instead (at 0% on purchases obviously!).

Still 3 x value for Eurotunnel at the moment but will keep an eye on it reducing to just 2 x. When it does that I'll change up what I've got and hang onto the voucher for a fairly long time before booking!
Yup just booked our trip to France in June. £8 cash top up 😃

That's good to see. Will order just before we go to France in June and then keep hold of them until as late as possible before booking for next year.

The only reason I use Tesco’s either in store or credit card sales is for the Chunnel. When this happens I will “go Chase bank”. That’s if they are still in existence with what’s happening to American banks.

Yup, Chase is a good one, we've had them for a while, me for over a year so the 1% cash back ended on mine whilst hubby's is still okay for another couple of months. If I want to get 1% cashback with Chase I can but need to pay 2 DDs and put in a minimum of £500 in every month (although it doesn't have to stay there).

The rates for Tesco points you can earn differ depending on what you're buying, obviously you should always swipe your Clubcard when shopping at Tesco, either in store/online or for fuel, regardless of how you're paying, as you get:
  • £1 spent = 1 point in a Tesco store/online, equals £0.01 per £1
  • £2 spent = 1 point on Tesco fuel, equates to £0.005 per £1
If you do a lot of shopping, purchasing of Tesco fuel they do add up eventually and you might as well have them as not .... but ... it's when you come to pay that there's a quite a difference in the rate you earn at:
  • Pay with a Tesco Credit Card (CC) and you'll get (paid on whole £1s only):
    • 1 point for every £4 spent at Tesco in store/on fuel = £0.0025 per £1
    • 1 point for every £8 spent elsewhere (ie non-Tesco) = £0.00125 per £1
  • Pay with a Chase debit card (DC) and you'll get (pro rata, not just on whole £1s)::
    • 1% cashback on full spend, thus £0.01 per £1
Concentrating only on what you'd get as a 'reward' when paying with Tesco CC or Chase DC this works as follows:
  • Spend £400 a month at Tesco:
    • Tesco CC: £1.00 [£400 x £0.0025p] (x 3 = £3 in reward vouchers, dropping to x 2 = £2)
    • Chase DC: £4.00 [£400 x 1%]
  • Spend £400 a month elsewhere:
    • Tesco CC: £0.50 [£400 x £0.00125p] (x 3 = £1.50 in reward vouchers, dropping to x 2 = £1)
    • Chase DC: £4.00 [£400 x 1%]
So however you look at it, even when you multiply your Tesco reward by x 2 or x 3, you are still quids in paying with a Chase DC and getting 1%, either at Tesco or elsewhere.

The only negative with Chase is that you'd be using your bank funds so if you've got an interest earning account obviously you loose the interest on that portion.

I think this lot makes sense, I'm sure someone will tell me if it doesn't!

My Lloyds credit card gives me 1% cash back so I will be using that more and more for things that aren’t Tesco’s. Better add it to Amazon and Paypal come June. I’ve just renewed our Senior railcards with Tescos vouchers and will buy the codes for next year before June plus son’s RAC but will still have a lot left. Kept meaning to use the tunnel but we like BF and have Club Voyage. Oh well it was nice while it lasted. Might have to look at what else they do.

Boots have reduced theirs too.

I think this may have a knock on effect with eurotunnel , I would
not use the tunnel without the vouchers
Suspect we'll be using the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry more. We're already using it for one crossing this year and Eurotunnel for another paid for with vouchers.

An IMPORTANT heads up which some may need to do soon ...

This applies to those who are signed up for the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme* but want to use Tesco vouchers for Rewards Partners before the value drops - if you've no intention of doing any Reward Partner spends before 14 June 2023 then you can ignore this (although some might find it informative if they've never heard of the CCSS).

*The Clubcard Christmas Saver scheme saves the points you earn throughout the year and only converts them to Tesco vouchers in November, it means that you won't get vouchers sent quarterly throughout the year and instead get larger ones in November which then have a 2 year expiry date to November 2025, rather than May 2025 or August 2025, so a good way to extend the period before you have to use them.

Option 1: Automatically convert ALL existing points into Tesco Vouchers
If you want all the points to be converted to Tesco vouchers automatically in the next statement before the value drop you need to change your scheme from Clubcard Christmas Saver to Vouchers - I'd do it by mid-April to be safe as I'm not sure what date the May ones will be actually issued. You will then have all your existing points converted to Tesco vouchers which will be issued in May 2023 and can exchange them for 3x value before 14 June 2023, rather than wait until November 2023 by which time they will only be worth 2x value.
  1. Log in to Tesco
  2. Click on My Clubcard
  3. Click on Voucher Schemes
  4. Change to Vouchers
  5. Click on Choose Scheme lower down page (not shown on screenshot)
1679140161664.png

Option 2: Manually convert SOME of your points into Tesco Vouchers
If you only want SOME of your points converting so you can use them before the reduction in value, then stay with the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme and wait until the May ones have been issued then change to Vouchers as detailed above. This needs to be done before 14 June so you have a chance to convert them to Rewards Vouchers and 'spend' them, however I wouldn't leave it that late as they could be inundated in the panic to change loads before the deadline!
Once you've opted for the Vouchers scheme (nos 1-5 above) you can then request some* of your points to be converted to Tesco Vouchers and later change them for Partner Rewards Vouchers (*you don't have to convert all the points you have, just the amount you need for any Reward Partner you intend to use, the rest will remain on your account).
If you want to go back to being in the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme then once you've exchanged the points you need simply swap back to it before August (the next automatic voucher issue). The benefit is that your next lot of vouchers won't get issued until November and thus the expiry date will be November 2025 rather than August 2025.

Does anyone who gets their vouchers quarterly know when they are next due, I know it's May but when in May?
