The basin tap on my 2015 Hymer is not working. Suspect either broken microswitch or broken wire to the microswitch.

We are just leaving El Rocio and heading for the Albufeira area of the Algarve. Anybody know where I could get it fixed please in the area?

Many thanks for any help.

I think you have the same tap as me Peter. On mine the wire corroded off at the microswitch, I cut the soft bit at the back of the switch off and soldered on new wires and sealed them with epoxy. With that tap it's a pig to get the tap back together without trapping the wires. My first repair lasted a couple of days, second one a month, since the last attempt it's been OK for 6 months.
The microswitch is about £15 in the UK, can't use any old one, also it has normally closed contacts, in the tap closed position it holds the switch in, that had me going for a bit.

We got by by just turning the kitchen or shower tap on just enough to start the pump without any water coming out, then we could use the wash basin tap. Or the connections are in the cupboard underneath you could fit a cheap switch to keep you going until you get home.

Thanks Lenny. If we were back home with all my tools I would DIY. But not so confident with a basic tool kit. And if I take it to bots and can't get it back together I could end up with not being able to use all of the taps.

Tried the switch another one on a bit, but it does not work very well.

To expand on what @Lenny HB said, if you look under the sink there will be a pair of wires going to the tap switch. A short distance from the tap there will be a pair of push-on spade-type connectors that you can pull apart.

If you touch the two connectors together, you will hear the pump turn on. So you can check that the wire is still working.

You can buy a simple on-off switch from a car accessories shop, and connect it up with a short pair of wires with spade connectors. You could fix the switch on the front of the sink cupboard with sticky foam pads.

Of course you have to remember to turn the switch on and off whenever you turn the tap on and off. Not ideal, but it will work OK until you can replace the microswitch in the tap.

Thanks everybody for your help.

Just to let you know the conclusion. I was meeting up with @BreweryDave in any event so he contacted Nigel for me who came out this morning and fixed it. One of the leads had pulled out of the microswitch. Luckily he has a suitable microswitch with him and replaced it. Tap now working again. It was an absolute pig to dismantle the tap, so I am glad he did it rather than me.

I would certainly recommend Nigel if any of you have problems in the Algarve. He is mobile only and will come out to where you are stopping to sort out any problems. UK mobile. +44 7739 359555 and also has a website
