My mum has dementia and can't use a smart phone or tablet.
We've installed a KOMP screen from a company called noisolation.com. No controls for her to worry about. We can video call her, send photos and text messages. It really is making such a difference to keeping in touch and helping with loneliness. She loves it!
Thought I'd put it on here just in case it helps anyone else as a solution to keep in touch with non tech savvy seniors. I only found it on Google search last week.

Thanks for the info. It looks very interesting.

My mum suffers with macular degeneration and we recently got her a smartphone designed especially for the elderly. That said, it is not easy for her.

This system doesn't allow outgoing calls but I don't understand how it can work without the internet or am I misunderstanding it?

Used it for about three years now. Handy to see how elderly parents are doing, make sure they are about if no answer on phone etc. can be used via internet or SIM card. We put on loads of pictures so they always have loads of different things to look at as well as some very old ones which my mum relates to (dementia). Works well.

All set up so you call the device and it automatically opens up a two way screen. They don’t need to answer as it opens automatically after a ten second countdown at their end. Closes down when you end call. You can send photos etc but they cant. They don’t need to do anything.

I think the beauty of it is that there is nothing for mum to do. I have set the screen to sleep between 9pm and 8am each day. I could put other sleep periods in during the day but mum likes having it on with pictures of her dogs.

Great to hear from someone that's been using the system for some time.
