Spring into summer in Spain

A posting yesterday that I put on the Morning Funsters thread had Ven querying the official stay at the Praia de Esteiro. We checked the notices this morning and .... we were illegal squatters. It doesn't say 24 hours but it says one night. We had two 😨😨. We still stayed for a few more hours to go for a ride.

We didn't feel too bad (we didn't even feel bad) when we saw some surfers camped with cars and tents on the car parking area where there are "no camping signs" clearly displayed. Brit registered vehicle as well 🙁.

Anyway we had a ride we've done before (again) and, on our return we packed up the van and left.

We're going up there.

Blimey, it was windy.

From here we descended to the clearing in the centre of this photo.

And an Ostrich or more likely a Rhea. It wouldn't pose for a photo.

It was all in this same area

We stood here talking to two locals who had ridden up from Viveiro. They said that the coast from here to Ferrol is the best in Galicia. They might be biased a tad, but it is a lovely coastline.

We're now here.

Another place we've been before. Hardly anyone here when we arrived but it's filled up quite a bit now.

We've been to look at the beach.

We'll have a ride from here tomorrow.

Here we are, waking to the sound of the birds and the waves, well the vans occupant's next to us haven't engaged in their communication by shouting...nice respectable looking mom, dad and two young girls...but they haven't got over the excitement of being on holiday as yet..
An area know to use, I shall plan a route today, let's see how it goes..🤔🇪🇦🚴🚴

The woman from the motorhome next door has gone out for a run. Dad and girls are locked in with the external lock! They can get out through the cab doors, but .... it doesn't seem necessary to be so safety conscious.

They must be worried about us being next to them 😄

Dodgy MAMIL next door🤣🤣🤣

We have returned to Base, the 150dB family have gone, only to be replaced by a Spanish couple who's MH is bigger than our apartment in Murcia...(Slight exaggeration) I'm sure they will be fairly quiet....and appreciate my guitar practice scheduled for 6pm..😆

At risk of becoming (more) boring, we had another good ride.

We began along the coast path, signed all the way with red markers. The viewpoint we've stayed at before now has some big boulders to prevent the vehicle access to the flat area, so the only parking now is on the paved area nearer the road. It's a bit sloping also.

One lighthouse we'll not be visiting!

We then rode down to the Playa de Xiloi
image.webp

and then to the Port of O Vicedo where we had coffee. "No motorhome parking" signs were in the port. The first we've seen around this area.

IMG_5096.webp

We then turned inland and rode through some hamlets with very old buildings (Id love to know the story behind the sign) and climbed up to the wind turbines before dropping back to the coast.

On fridge news it went back up to 15° today and the freezer began to defrost. I had to throw away some items that were already soft. Prawns, prawns in batter, smoked salmon, were just some of them. I wasn't happy, but we couldn't risk eating them.

The fridge has now been turned off and is being used as storage and we're just using the Alpicool for food. Martin will apply the thermal paste when we pick it up, but if it doesn't work it's no big deal.

We're slowly reducing gas usage, but we still need it for hot water.

As it's going up and down in temperature I don't think replacing the paste will help.

Well if that's the case Lenny it's just as well we bought the Alpicool when we did, I'm not going to bother myself too much with this 3 way, we are happy to swap it over for a compressor fridge in the Autumn.
We have enough Lithium to run one successfully, with the existing fridge being 19 years old it's served us well.
So on to today, we shall remain here after today's ride, it's quite busy and that should increase later as the weekenders arrive...
The weather is not as challenging as other parts of Galicia or even Spain on the whole...we generally research well and choose what suits us..😎🇪🇦

Martin's bike has a broken spoke. He knew something wasn't right yesterday when we were riding. This morning the tyre was flat. He's repairing it now. A Polish guy in the van next to us has a selection of spokes and he's given us two to choose from. How nice is that. He also seems to know exactly how to repair it. He's always breaking spokes because he's fat! His words 😂

Failing a repair it'll be a trip to a bike shop.

We've only had broken spokes once before. When we were cycling the Via de la Plata on traditional mountain bikes, Martin's bike had two broken spokes. We were two riding stages past Sevilla and he had to catch the bus back with his wheel. The wheel was repaired in 20 minutes but the bus back didn't leave until the evening. Imagine the questions and comments he got in Sevilla walking about all day with a wheel 😂😂

And repaired it was...as my bike has a tubeless set up, I had to be careful not to cause too much damage to the rim tape, pushing the new spoke nipple through then resealing...it worked well and a ride was completed 😃 Thanks to my new Polish friend for coming to my aid...👍🥇

Very busy overnight...but quiet...we now have visitors from the UK as neighbours...nice couple, rides a eMTB also..
We will move on today...do some shopping and plan the next part of this adventure..
The weather is still good, not too hot near the coastline, but a little warmer inland..
There aren't too many official camperstops on this stretch , so we may need to use lasts years semi official parkings....it's weekend, so we have to choose wisely, I haven't got anything to repair today, I'm on top of what's needed to keep all wheels turning..🚍🚴🚴

We have neighbours on the other side of us also. Spanish, living in Madrid, but from Puerto Mazarron and have a house there. They know where our apartment complex is, their German neighbour plays golf there.

They're very friendly and the guy is a bit of a joker. I wonder if we'll see them again. Very unlikely, I'm sure. They arrived here from San Cibrao and it seems it's even more rammed than when we looked a few days ago. They weren't impressed!

So, for us, it's shopping and then heading inland for the weekend, searching for a bit of solitude.

Bit of solitude Judith...how about this place to chill...not quite in the clouds, but one of the highest places around here.

I'd like to say quiet night, but having a wind turbine 10 metres away can be a little loud when in full motion...like at 4am this morning..😄
We have a few hours of rain to come, in fact it's here now....all adds to the atmosphere of parking up in our chosen location..
I have a light mountain jacket on this morning, it's only 15°c which is reducing as the rain is encroaching...Replanning is required...🤔🇪🇦🚴🚴

Its noisy on the coast as well.

Ratty white fluffy dogs everywhere yapping all the time.
It's packed to the rafters everywhere. Last one came onto this paid aire at 3am and first to leave 5.30 am today.

Never again at this time of year.

We will be glad to get our ferry next week ( we never thought we'd say that)

We are always away this time of the year in Galicia, too darn hot back home in Murcia...we try to choose wisely where we go...last night just us, where we are now, just three of us, free Camperstop fully serviced with free electricity... shouldn't get many others as its Sunday...yesterday when we passed it was empty...

The motorhome area of Ourol. It's near the road, but that's fairly quiet, and next to a picnic area, leading to a park. Nicely marked parking spaces, but a bit sloping. Need levellers. Not a problem for us with no temperamental fridge to accommodate 😂

But a temperamental travelling companion, you know being level is right...and the colours...I'm overwhelmed with Green...

Martin planned a short (8k ish) walk and we set off to beat the rain, which still hasn't arrived although grey clouds keep coming and going.

We finished the route on what we decided was the "cholesterol route" for Ourol. A nicely surfaced, level walkway. Just why there was so much seating will remain a mystery. The outlook, from a seated position, is the wall of the flyover bridge of the later built bypass.
