On the plus side, the van was still there when we went to check it. Fortunately we were not picking it up to go away in it as someone had nicked the drivers side mirror glass along with the mirror guard.
The mirrors had been left folded in, so had been opened out to remove and then folded back.
Not sure of the best way to fix it yet as the wires had been broken off.

It’s not very secure if other “customers” can just steal bits to replace the ones they had obviously damaged on their travels !

Barstewards ..

inside job no doubt, are there no CCTV. ?

I hope you reported to the storage owner.. it maybe covered by their insurance
There are cameras at the entrance but not around the site. I did report it but no sign of them covering it, maybe they just hope I won't pursue it (worth checking on!).
I figure it was probably someone else there who had bashed there's while travelling.
Annoyingly, I had been considering how best to mark the mirror guard before I took it back :tmi:

Is there anything in your storage contract T&Cs about insurance covering theft or damage ?

and if indeed they are CaSSOA members, email them for advice

I assume Jim means e-mail CaSSOA not the member.

[Not being picky, just clearing what could be an ambiguity]

I've just changed the glass on my van 2021 boxer (more than likely the same mirror) cost £16 off ebay and it was heated. So not over expensive if annoying

What is most annoying, is that we have paid £800 for a years storage and we now don't feel as though it is really safe - a peace of mind problem.

I considered storage a couple of years ago when I got my first proper motorhome but decided against it as there are numurous stories just like this online so I don't personally see it as VFM.

Just enough wire to get a double wago on each core it looks like?

I'm thinking that way as well now, especially as I now have made enough space on the drive to keep it there. There are 2 considerations to having it at home - One is that people can see that you're away and the other is that I get mice in my garage in winter and would be concerned about damage from them.
Decisions are never straightforward.

Fit rams, then see if the little Fiddlesticksers can clamber up those greasy poles,

It is highly recommended that your caravan is covered by insurance whilst in storage. Usually, the site will have Public Liability Insurance to cover issues like fire and flooding, but this might not extend to accidental damage or theft.
CaSSOA Caravan Protector insurance is available to customers who store their caravan or motorhome on a CaSSOA site. This is exclusive to CaSSOA site storage customers, offering flexible, competitive caravan insurance with no excess, accidental damage and legal expenses cover included as standard.

from there T&C's so highly unlikely you are covered but if you take out even more insurance you might be.

Might be oorth a walk round to see how many similar door mirrors there are on the site then check if their protectors match fully 🤔

If site are decent they could review CCTV to see if any of same model came in with a broken glass 👍

Ours is Cossa Silver and in over 15 years of storage, only had one issue and that was from the Motorhome owner who parked next to us.
He had reversed into our Motorhome and left a big scrape on our overhead cab front corner bodywork.
I knew it was him because there was broken plastic glass beneath on the floor from his high marker side light.
Needless to say, that side had a new high marker side light on it as I compared both his lights. One dirty and sealant cracking, other one gleaming brand new.
Reported to the office but they couldn’t do anything without a witness.
Left a note on his windscreen advising to keep an eye out in case someone reverses into his van like they did with mine - without accusing but just to let him know that I know and got a note back very defensive.
I’ve since moved pitches as I’ve watched him manoeuvre and in my view, his ability is below a standard to drive let alone reverse his Motorhome.

Can you still get mirror/glass etched with your reg? Just a thought👍

I am glad I did not get my UK Reg No. etched on as we now have a Polish Reg No..

We would either have had to change all the windows including the expensive 'A' Class windscreen or risk accusations of theft. :giggle:

Sorry to hear this, I’d absolutely smash them if I caught them, it’s utterly infuriated me and then to cut the wires too, grrr 😡 Probably too stupid and low if scum to even know about releasing the terminals.

We had an entire caravan stolen from our storage facility last week. On camera, cctv, loads to security devices, all cut off and driven away with a landrover with plates covered up. They wore hoods and masks, so knew that there was cctv, but the barstewards didnt care.

Site owner has done so much to improve safety and security, which was exc in the first place, but if they want your vehicle, then they’ll carry out their reccy and know exactly how to strike.

I understand for many reasons people use and need storage, but it does provide a bit of a shop window for the "wronguns" to go and have a look at when their out shopping !!
Mike

I would think the van would be insured and the storage site must have insurance too, but it is the pure fact that whilst in storage the van can be vandalised and bits removed!
It is a peace of mind thing, you know the van is in secure storage so it should be secure!

When you visit the website the only reference is to caravan insurance not motorhome?

I don’t think CASSOA ratings make much difference, my insurance company ignore them and base the risk entirely on post code.

Could you have a strikethrough on your old reg and the new reg etched on? If accused of theft, you'd have the invoice in your name to prove the change was legitimate. Just a thought :)

Wishing there was a 'Like' for Angry. I can't believe people would do such a thing. What's happened with the world?? :(

We hag our rear light cluster knocked off while in storage, by the caravan which had been parked next to us am sure it was damaged too but the CCTV didn't catch the relevant side of the van when it left the site. Fortunately was a cheap but fairly easy fix. That particular owner either changed their van or moved to another part of the site.
It is frustrating hope you get it fixed ok.

Sounds interesting, I haven't heard of them. Could you give a little more information please (y) I do know that mice can jump out of a bucket from when I tried to relocate one

We kept our motorhome on the drive with a Blink security camera system in it. We did this for about 5 years until the fateful night when the Blink app flashed up on my phone that there was movement detected in the van ( 2 cameras ) they had smashed the drivers door quarterlight and used the button on the door to unlock it. There were 3 of them, one looking round inside the motorhome, one removed the ignition barrel and cover to the diagnostic port and was trying to remove the Milenco BC box(he failed which is why it is still ours) and one keeping watch outside and removing the hook up cable. We surprised them but they ran off and got away in a waiting car. We got a good picture of one of the thieves which the police are using to trace them and our motorhome is now in a local CASSOA gold secure storage site as I don't want a second visit, and I Daren't leave it on the drive overnight we always go away straight from the storage compound. But at least we still have something to go away in.
