Earlier this week I bought a CSL digital satallite finder to use with my MaxView CrankUp dish and Avtex tv. I've always struggled to get the satallite tv to work. However, using the new digital stallite finder made easy work of finding the Astra 2A satallite. The problem I have though, is that as soon as I disconnected the sat finder, I lost satallite signal. No alteration was made to the dish alignment. Any ideas why, and how do I resolve it?

Check F plugs. Often a common weakness. If cheap sat Cable was used or just old it can stretch.. if in doubt re do the plugs.

I assume that you have picture with the sat finder in line but loose it when you take it out..

if so it can only be your connectors or the cable.

Thanks for your responses. I'll check/fit new connectors. Silly question though, would it do any harm if I leave the satfinder in line permanently?

no i dont believe so. except it MAY! shorten the life of the sat finder just may!

If your TV is like our AVTEX you won't need a sat finder. In the Setup menu you can get it to show signal strength, just use this to get optimum signal. :)

I'm thinking there may well be a duff connection but seems to work fine with satfinder connected. Given that there's little risk of harm if left in-line, I will leave it like that till I get around to replacing the F plugs. Thanks to everyone for their advice :)

The LNB ( the bit that is sticking out the front of the dish ) requires voltage to be fed to it.

As it worked with the finder I would guess the plug is fine, but there may be a problem with the tv not putting any voltage up the line

dont think this satfinder has its own power source i believe it uses the TV as a source.
