Hi.
Have had a Noza Tek for a few years now,but due to it being "Launched" some while ago during a Domestic.(And you would think butter wouldn't...) It now only works while powered up via the 12v socket,so having had a birthday on the 10th,i have been asked if i would like another Sat Nav.
I have made up my mind,it is another Noza Tek cannot fault it (Except in flight,it dips to the left until it runs out of power cable, then whips back and clouts you)
Or a "Gody ?" Thanks in advance.
Tea Bag
PS. I only need a Sat Nav to get me from A-B,don't need Apps/POI, or one that can Iron a Kilt.... Thanks.
PPS. Include any "Flight characteristics" of the Gody.........?

Xgody does for me, perfectly adequate.

Fed up with popcorn, so lightly chilled white and cheesy nibbles anyone. :gum:

Google maps then.

It smashes every commercial sat nav platform into oblivion.

Can you explain please Nick, why Google maps couldn't find a tiny village I needed to get to, but the cheap Chinese Sat Nav using iGo software and Navtec mapping identified the village, and immediately planned a route, based on the vehicle profile input?

I sometimes use Google maps for route planning, (now that MS Autoroute is no longer supported), but I don't use them for navigation, however, my daughter does on her smart phone, and on more than one occasion, the maps have taken her well out of her way, and she's only driving a small car.
I have also observed that images on Goole Street Maps, are some years out of date. It would appear that Rita and I own 2 x Hymer MHs, ie, one in storage, and one on the drive. Their maps also showed our old Peugeot 309 outside our home. We haven't owned that for many years.

@Tea Bag was happy with his original unit, hence looking for the same, or similar.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Google Maps and Google Earth/Streetview are two completely different things and shouldn’t be confused.

The satellite images are in no way relevant to the map routing functionality - if they are so important why doesn’t your commercial satnav have any?

I’ve always found Google Maps to be far more up to date than anything else, the mapping software is superior and the routing in my experience has always been far more accurate.

If you want to swap stories about mistakes and glitches I can go on all day about stupid errors and glitches I’ve encountered with commercial sat nav platforms.

Using the IGo paltform with Navteq mapping? Please do, but please also respect that some of us don't use smart phones, and have been happy with our current naviagation set up for some years now, helped immensely by having access to the latest map updates.

BTW, if it's an argument or provocative debate you are after, then with "all due respect", find someone else. ;)
I was just trying to help the OP.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I wouldn't buy anything heavy and maybe wrap some neoprene around the new one.

Excuse me?

All the Chinese sat navs run pirate software and (often inaccurate) maps.
If people are happy breaching copyright then so bee it. Not for me.

Ah but they’re cheap so according to the gurus of all knowledge on here that automatically means they’re fantastically wonderfully brilliantly perfect and nobody can ever dare to suggest otherwise

Hi.
I did NOT want this to become a row. It was/is a straight choice and members on here have experience of both these models, the Gody seemingly the one to have out of the two.
When i bought the Noza Tek it was about £88 then (A while backfrom a chap in Scotland) So,it was not so "Cheap" then, and has never put a foot wrong,in fact it wanted me to go down a back alley in Coimbra...Twice i came back and hesitated, third time ,down we went and pulled up outside the Chinese restaurant we wanted...Result. Experience...We bought a Mazda 929 estate donkeys years ago, everybody laughed...Todays Mazdas?. A Kia Sorrento when they first came out(Two mates who wetted themselves laughing at the time now own one apiece)
Why would i spend in some case at least 4 times as much, for something that has adaptions on it i will never use ?. Technology left me behind in the '80's.
So,thanks for the input...Gody it is.....".Getting it bought!"(y)

what a load of old tosh.
maybe years ago they were bad, but i run 2017 maps, and they are truck maps.
these are the same maps as used in £100+ sat navs, so not very inaccurate

I have a (rather expensive) Garmin. Which is a right PITA, to programme has pretty much a mind of it`s own, and even WITH it set to the "R-V" mode, has so far had me in 2 villages with narrow hard turns, and loads of parked vehicles, when the MAP shows a Bye-pass!.

I have so far lost trust in it that I make all my trips up on "Base Camp" and download to the device. But if it needs a "detour" on the road, I dread it! as we inevitably finish up going miles out of the way when later review of the route shoes a MUCH simpler often shorter routing. I now keep my "truckers" map book in the M-H!.

Not a load of tosh at all. Many of the models are sold without the .ftr files, hence inaccurate.
That doesn't, either, alter the fact that the software is pirated.

I've been running an XGody 886 Truck satnav for the past few weeks. It seems to work just fine now that I have updated the maps to 2018. There's a helpful Facebook group for Notzatac/Xgody users - called "Nozatec Truck Sat Nav Users UK"

As an observation, updating these devices is not as simple as with, say, a TomTom. You do need some basic PC skills i.e. you need to be able to:
a) download zip files
b) unzip zip files
c) follow directory structures and copy/paste files from the unzipped folder to the right folder on the satnav.

If you don't have these PC skills then to avoid tearing your hair out please stick with a proper/expensive satnav!

The same maps as on branded platforms? Exactly the same? No differences at all?

Do you think the Chinese companies have paid to licence them?

Or do you think that perhaps in the best traditions of Chinese tech they might just have pirated it?

And by the way unless you're doing updates at least every 12 weeks all Satnav mapping is inaccurate. (y)

Hi.
X Gody arriving Tuesday Derbyshire. Thanks for the replies.

Suggest you join the facebook Nozatec group called "Nozatec Truck Sat Nav Users UK" and update your maps from there - yes I know you have an Xgody but it's the same software. This will also make sure you have the right files to make the system plot routes that use your weight/height/length. By the way, use the 'car' profile and select (I think) additional parameters or something similar in order to enter your vehicle dimensions.

Hi @Bill_OR
Thanks for the advice.....But.... I was lucky enough to get an 84 page Instruction Guide, from an old member for the Noza......
** Should anybody like me to send them it,its a "Zip File ?" And without looking at who sent it,i think it was Pilmo ? If you are still out there Pilmo/Philmo ? THANKS AGAIN....MAGIC
With this in hand i employed G.son (666) to update the maps,if you can make any sense of this,he set up the Pooter and Sat Nav,had 2 ? Pages running at the same time, got up from the table and said. "Don't touch a thing,i will be back in about 45 mins". (He is..27!!!..)Young wast ? .....waste ?...Whipper Snapper!!(y)
