Hi All

Does anyone know where I could park my m/h around Salcombe for the day I was going to book into the Caravan club site at Sokenham But this is 9 miles from Salcolme so wanted somewhere to park for the day a bit closer then ride in on the bikes with the wife. The park and ride says no Motorhomes why is this country so against Motorhomers ???

Thanks

LB

Salcombe , from what i hear is not what it used to be . So full of holiday/second home's , it could almost be classed as closed during the winter . Such a shame for what was once , a very beautiful fishing village . I have spent many a camping holiday , both there and Kingsbridge with my parent's in the 70's , last time i was there was in the early 80's . Sorry your gonna have to bear with me , as i'm dealing with a 40 odd year memory here . We used to stay on a camp site just on the outskirt's called Alston farm , i've checked on google earth and it appears to still be there . it's set in a valley with a stream running though the bottom , however from what i can recall access was not great for a caravan or motorhome , due to the typical cornish road's , narrow with stone bank's . I do recall my dad replacing the propshaft u/v joint on a lwb Bedford ca dormobile in kingsbridge carpark , one year next to a restaurant on a paddle steamer , PS Dart spring to mind , so my dad must have got that in there .
I also recall there was a bloody great carpark on the quay in Salcombe itself , the creek car park , also appear's to still be there , but i afraid i really only remember this place , for when my dad brought a live crab off one of the fishing boat's , and subsequently hlm and mother chasing it around the car park when the dam thing did a runner with his screwdriver , don't ask ! .
Another place worthy of a mention is Hope cove , westerly facing beach , i really cant remember much about parking here except it over looked the beach . Very quiet , but could be windy , either way totally unspoilt .

Not sure the Cornish roads can be blamed.

Salcombe is really difficult. No parking anywhere. It really isn't a MH friendly county. If it was me I would give up on the bikes, park the MH in the Ferry car park at Totnes and get the circular boat/train/bus trip as an outing instead! (y)

We have stayed in the Caravan Club site at Start Bay (just on from Stokenham), and have walked along the coastal path to Beesands, Hallsands in one direction and Slapton Sands in the other for exercise.

Look up Southern Mill Farm and caravan site, it is at south sands which is the southern edge of Salcombe.
South Sands, Salcombe TQ8 8LN.
Hope it works out.
Cheers Chris.

It seems this country doesn't go out of its way for us motorhomers because some people abuse every situation, leaving a trail of rubbish, outstaying their welcome etc etc. I know the park and rides around here have been targeted by the travelling community so they've had to have security firms manning the gates,

We have friends in Salcombe and can't get any where near where they live so stay at the nearest campsite at Ilton Farm.

we have decided to go round the corner to Looe in Cornwall instead but thanks for all the info
