Just an update on my problem with the Safefil leak. Both my hab service engineer Nick Adams got back to me after my SOS and Neil Worthington of Safefil within a couple of hours and both said it was most likely that it would be the heat causing the pressure release valve to activate to relieve the buildup of pressure due to the heat. And so it was. After taking their advice and waiting till the following morning put bottle back on and normal service resumed. Many thanks to them and all who offered their advice.

Have you checked that the bottle was not overfilled?

Even though the safefill have overfill protection they can and do get overfilled. Mine are 10kg bottles and meant to have a max of 19ltrs..
Once a young guy who did the filling at my local independant place put in 23 ltrs !! Liquid coming out so i had to vent it off before use.
The safefill facebook group has some similar tales, also sticking valves so no gas comes out at all.
Great as they are you need to be aware of the niggles with Safefill. ;)

I only get my 19 litres filled when the bottles are empty and then I ask for 19 litres and check it going in.

as you say

Same here. I take when fully empty.
Tell the guy 19ltr max unless the OPD cuts in first. (y)
In 2 years and using 2 x 10kg bottles it's only happened once but I still keep a watch.

Just so I understand. Are you saying that Safefill bottles leak LPG when the weather gets hot? If so that does not sound very safe to me.

Not if they have not been overfilled; mine have never leaked. But always safer to check they are not overfilled.

Shouldn't they be designed in a way that prevents overfilling? Whenever we fill our Gasit bottles the pump cuts out at 80%
How do you know if the overfill protection has failed on your gasit cylinder and the cylinder has more than 80%?

Because I use the Mopeka system to check the levels. And I have never had any leaks from the cylinder.

I have GasIt bottles in main gas locker and a Safefill bottle for BBQ and fire pit. Both fill to 80% so I have been informed with in built safety protection. The have worked great so far and saved me a fortune.

From the info, I recieved from Safefil and the great guy who services our van it is the PSV , the builtin safety, feature that saves it from exploding, as in my case the unusually hot weather caused it to happen and as soon as it is placed in a cooler fresher air enveiroment it quickly reverts to normal. It was due to heat expansion not overfilling in my case. as an extra precaution I ran the gas thru the hob for a couple of minutes to make sure. We have just been to the Peterboro dog show ,sorry MoHo show, Hot weather and Ferry meadows Hot weather, and had no repeat of our experience.
