it's poured with rain this morning and one of my roof lights has started leaking, what is the best product to reseal it?, obviously it isn't going to get done today because it's still raining. How do I get it out to clean off the old sealant?

I used sikaflex from screwfix, took the rooflight out cleaned the old sealer with turps and resealed.
Not saying it’s right but it’s done a neat job and water tight.

Thanks, I used the search function on fun but there are so many conflicting views that I couldn't make my mind up what to get. I've bought some non-setting tape from the local caravan stealer. If it ever stops raining I'll have ago at rearing it.

Carafax is a none setting mastic. You can get it in tubes or on a roll that you lay on then tighten down your rooflight.Just make sure you get all the old sealant off then wipe clean with white spirit .

We had a small leak from ours during torrential rain and "it was decided" that it would be removed and resealed.

It was a tedious job to take it out and remove all the old mastic (devils excrement) and I would be reluctant to do it again. But we did use the mastic tape.

As it only leaked during hammering rain I would now be inclined to just put more sealant around the outside and see how that works.

My rear roof light leaked in the torrential rain we had during one of the storms back in February. A few days later I tried to work out where the leak was with a garden hose. I couldn't get any water to find its way in...

Then I worked out that it leaked when the van was, facing uphill on our sloping driveway, I almost always park it the other way. I worked out only when LOTS of water travelled high speed along the roof, like when it was sloped on the drive, did it make a bow wave that allowed the water to get over the lip of the roof light and inside. Re-sealing wouldn't have helped me at all.

I've been driving in very heavy rain today in Germany and it's been fine. Provided I don't park facing uphill on a slope in really heavy rain, it's fine.

I'd encourage you to confirm you know where the leak is before you start playing with sealant. It's a sticky game!

My rear roof light top ripped of and broke on the deck in storms on a ferry in the outer Hebrides last weekend.
Now back trying to match up a new one. No name or numbers on the old one which the overall size of the top outer plastic saved in bits 450mm x 460mm the remaining inner part had 1 side wind up knob and there is an electric fan fitted in the center.
Where do I measure to match a new one, inside opening or other ?
Best supplier to ask ?
Anyone else had similar problem lately ?
Thanks.
