Hi

Hope this is the right forum

Wonder if anybody can help me in the search for a replacement over-cab skylight for my 2008 Lunar Champ/Premier H592 (I've put Champ/Premier as my instruction book is for a Champ but models earlier than mine appear to be called Premier... confusing, but it is definitely a H592 body)

It is the skylight which is positioned above the front cab seats, the original skylight bonding failed whilst driving down the motorway and the skylight just blew off, by the time I had pulled over and returned to see if anything was salvageable about 25-30 cars had driven over it so there wasn't much left. The photos show before and what I have now.

The repair garage have contacted everybody in the country they can think of, including breakers and even abroad in an attempt to locate one but with no joy - even O'Leary's was a dead end! They have even looked at other caravan/motorhome makes to see if any have a similar skylight but those that do, are not the right size or shape.

The problem is it is a unusual shape as it tapers from bottom to top, and is curved from front to back and from side to side. It would be quite easy to get one made if there was a mould available but there doesn't appear to be anybody with one.

It has been suggested to get a solid panel shaped to fit as this appears to be what has been used on later models, but this would look a bit odd both from outside but particularly from the inside as there is an skylight opening and a blind

So I was hoping that somebody out there has been in a similar situation and if they managed to either replace the skylight or to come up with a solution to resolve the problem, they can let me know.

Many thanks in advance

Yup - i must be getting old - That's the second time in the last week I have mucked up ;)

There are companies that make CUSTOM fit windows for vans etc... So they should be able to make a new one - helps if you have even bits of te original unit.

Eecco are really good they have helped us a few times over the last 25 or so years, but you may need a window to use as a template. Give them a call or email them with your pictures and description of van. Good luck.

This happened to us last weekend and we are also struggling to get a replacement for our Lunar Premier H622. Did you manage to source one in the end?

Hi
Just spent my beer tokens and joined so I could reply as I didn't want to leave you hanging but without joining I couldn't reply cos I'd used up my free posts. To be fair I have been lurking in the shadows since I posted the question and following various threads so probably a good idea to join :giggle:

After more than 6 weeks of searching and just starting to go down the try and find a similar motorhome and either get a part code or ask them if I could make a mould of the window as had been suggested elsewhere, a company I had contacted early on, Caravan Crazy in Kidderminster, sales@caravancrazey.co.uk, a guy called Chris Morris, contacted both my garage (who had also spoken to them) and myself to say they had sourced one in Europe.

Came in at £780 supply only, plus shipping plus fitting plus VAT, don't know what the final cost was as I put it through insurance so they covered most of the cost.

Had to wait 12 days for delivery and then fitting and then CV19 came along and put paid to any serious touring so haven't really had chance to use the van since but the replacement has been fine.

The shape of the front of your van and the rooflight look identical to mine so hopefully they can help

Hope you get it fixed

Cheers
Andrew

Wasn’t there a recall on some MotorhomeFun overcab windows?

"Just spent my beer tokens"...I am honoured.. and owe you a beer if we ever see you on a site for sure 😉 The caravan dealer we bought it from in Sept 20 is also looking at it but Ecco say they don't do curved windows and waiting to hear from miriad still so anywhere else we can find is a bonus. They also had said we must have hit something which I know we didn't so to hear you had exact same problem is backup for us. We do love our H622 but have not been out more than a couple of times since we bought it and absolute gutted that it's going to be out of action for a while. We've also been told to enquire at local windscreen replacement firms as they often fabricate bespoke screens etc. So that's tomorrow's job 👍

Hi
Have you managed to get sorted?
Any luck with Caravan Crazy?
Lunar/Home Car went bust a long time ago and the resurrected Lunar (also gone bust) have no parts records so are a waste of time
All the windscreen, plastic glass people I spoke to wanted a mould or template to work from, which I didn't have but you look as though you salvaged most of your window so could possibly use it as a template.
Also is that a parts number on the bottom left of the window in your photo, which might be useful

We've found a local plastics fabricator and they are making us one sized from the damaged pieces. They can't put the curve in though but say it should flex enough so we've asked them to put holes around the edge so we can screw or rivet it to the body as well as bond it. Fingers and everything else crossed it will work but have your contact as a backup if it doesn't. We should get the new panel next week.

ECCO won't do rooflights.

Lots of vans do something similar if you could find one a bit larger you could recur the hole to suit.

Another option is to fill the hole if it's GRP should be easy to find a boat repair guy to do it and then reline the internal cab roof.

Yes we did think about that. Our mechanic says a fibreglass piece could fill the gap but at the moment we're still trying to save the rooflight x

Could you repair it wIth GRP and Gel coat so it becomes an opening panel rather than a window and use a grey or black
Gel coat on the outside.

Another option for sure. Hadn't thought about boat builders either. Feeling like we have many more options than we first thought 👍

Update: Repair now done successfully, we replaced the polyplastic outer skin with a new piece of plastic manufactured to same type and size by https://www.trentplastics.co.uk/
They weren't able to put a curve in the panel but at only 3mm thick it was flexible enough to fit, although we also screwed it to the body of the MH. Cost £91 for panel and our mechanic fitted it for £60 (he's also a mate).
And now I can breathe!

Where did you source your skylight window from

Trying to get any for a Lunar Champ is nigh on impossible, short lived model and the company that built them went bust. I know, because I have one and cannot get any replacement parts

Hello Decla49 - can I ask how this repair is going for you? Did you replace only the outer skin? I have a crack in mine, and am struggling to get a new replacement window.

Looks like you might have solved the problem.
Can I just explain/comment that as far as I know the H in front of your model means it was built by Homecar in Belgium. I think they were absorbed into Chateau caravans but as far as I have found all the parts came from Europe.
Looks like youve solved it for now but we had to replace the toilet window on ours very recently and they repairere was able to source one thats near enough.
Best of Luck

It's working fine. It was only the outer skin. We had to carefully seal it and there are sometimes a few small condensation spots when it's really cold..but no real issues. And it means we can use the van when we thought at one point that was going to be impossible.

That's really useful to know if we have any more problems.. thank you!

Hi, I had exactly the same problem only this week with my Lunar Premier H622. The skylight above the cab seats just blew off as I motored down the M1! No warning, no previous leaks, just pffft, and it flew off! How did you resolve the problem in your motorhome? The repair centre are having a pow-wow on Monday to discuss strategies, but like you, have drawn a blank when trying to source a like for like replacement. I have had to cancel my 2 week holiday in south Wales, as I was due to leave on Wednesday. My next trip in September looks unlikely to happen too 😒😒.
