I need to change my breakdown cover provider as the AA won't cover vehicles over 3.5 tons.

I have had quotes from both the RAC and Mayday (Green Flag via the Caravan Club). The RAC cover is £50 more but includes membership to the C&CC, which I'm not currently a member of.

Which would you choose?

Are Green Flag as good as the RAC at fixing problems at the roadside?

Thanks.

I have greenflag but not had to use it so can't advise on that , but if you go to topcashback.com they usually have anything up to 50% off and it is real, I have done it(y)

I have used Green Flag TWICE. Both times they came within the hour ... No problems at all.

We've had Greenflag about 10 years. The cover we have is for the person not the vehicle
We've used them a few times for everything from a Fiat Pinto to a 9 ton RV

As post #6 for us too

RAC would be my choice for older vans or those over 3.5t. if youre also a member of c&cc then the restrictions on age/weight are different to standard cover, plus they will go off road to recover you too

Hi Jane,
We use arrival /rac thru CCC , as they cover most sizes and weights at reasonable cost. Used it in France and found them very good. just had my renewal thru £94.35 which covers me in any vehicle .( this one doesn't cover me in europe thats extra)

I am a big fan of Green Flag.

They really sorted me out in France last year when I had a problem with the car.

I have green flag,i,have only used them once and got a fast response.

Get back onto RAC, tell them what price Greenflag are offering and RAC will offer a more competitive price. Works for me every year.

We stick with the RAC since they do accident recovery for motorbikes and none of the others do. But our MoHo insurance also includes RAC cover anyway!

Hi , just checked my arrival /RAC thru CCC for europe . max 3.5 t max 7 mtrs

Thanks for all your replies! It sounds like RAC and Green Flag both offer a good service!

Looks like the decider will be whether I want to spend the extra £50 to have C&CC membership or not......

That's interesting, Terry. So they're happy to take over 3.5t in UK, but not in Europe? I'm not planning any imminent European trip, but it could happen in the future.

Have RAC cover and used it last year in France. they were very good and got to us in half an hour. got Ufudu going on a Saturday and told us to get a part at Fiat on Monday. On the Monday Fiat called them up to translate and it went without a hitch.

Had a ring round when RAC told me my van could only be covered in Europe for the additional European premium plus another £100 supplement for it being 15 years old.

Ended up going with quotelinedirect. Haven't had to call them out but policy is perfectly suitable and considerably cheaper.

have rac for car then when i got a mh i have rac through ccc, which i used this year near dartmouth, excellent service

I think that when choosing a breakdown service the most important thing to consider is that whilst they may be great at roadside repair but if that's not possible can they recover your MH no matter where you are?

Got breakdown insurance included with my motorhome insurance through safeguard. Not had any problems after breaking down in north wales ..

Well I've made a decision!
I played the RAC off against Green Flag and they have offered me 12 months membership for the price of 9. Happy with that.
Extremely unhappy with the AA who will not refund me 6 months membership :Eeek:. I will raise a separate thread to warn others who pay for things on an annual basis ....

I know you have made your decision, but here's my two penneth.

I have used Greenflag since tugging a few years ago. I have been recovered several times including my jeep grand cherokee with car trailer on the back. This was recovery home by two recovery trucks, and the motorhome from just south of Elgin, Scotland to Lincolnshire. First class service, and it covers me and the wife in other peoples vehicles as well. Money well spent.

Had an accident in Belgium 5 yrs ago ,vehicle written off and hospitilised for a couple of days, green flag to the rescue, sorted out recover of vehicle from accident site then back to england for insurers to see to. Then arrange through my insurers taxi and flights home. All from one initial phone call. Don't see any reason not to continue with getting great service from green flag.:xThumb:
