All the gear, and no idea!
Am I allowed to come down the 93 in Germany across the border with Austria (border runs down the middle of the river) here it becomes the A12 and can I get off at the first junction (Kufstein) without the go box or will the do me for the 1km between the border and the first junction. And can I do the same going back, I.e get on at the last Austria side junction and do the 1km into Germany?? I’m thinking of using this way as a rat run through Austria and into Slovenia then into Croatia (PROB NEXT YEAR NOW?)

Ady

when we came back through Austria last year there were a couple of asfinag blokes right on the border just watching everyone going over the border looking at the windscreens so i assumed they were checking you had the sticker or go box. not the same route as you but i would not chance Austria motorway without one. I think the fine can also be hefty

Yeah thanks, I’ve seen them myself whilst on the bike. I frequent Austria at least once a year mostly twice but this will be my first time over 3.5t. I was thinking of putting a vignette in window just for the 1km I’ll be on the A12??

My sister lives in Soll, when I have visited her I have continued on to the E60/A12 and come off at Kufstein-sud which I think is junction 6 without needing a vignette. The easiest way to check is to use google maps to plan your route making sure to choose avoid tolls and it will come up with a route for you.

Yes you’re right, I did that t’other night and it brought me off at No6 sud, but do I trust the cops????

All I can say is they haven't fined me yet, or any of my siblings when we have visited :giggle: and some of my siblings visit every year for the skiing.

Coming in from Slovenia I've seen the Autobahn closed at the first rest area all traffic diverted through the rest area, police checking Vigenetts & Go Boxes.

Is that AFTER the first jct or BEFORE (between the land border line and first jct?)
I’ve seen them on many exits but not the first ones in and out!

A few years ago but it was the next picnic area after the first rest area with a fuel station that you could buy a Vigentt at (I'd just bought one). So if you didn't stop for one tuff, as a lot of Dutch that got pulled found out.

And one Brit....

I’ve no idea what a Go Box is.....is it a physical device. My previous Hymer was 3500kg and just needed a vignette. My new one is 3850kg...I think I read somewhere that you can’t use a vignette for that weight in Austria and Slovenia.....is that the case ?

Yes anything 3501kg and over needs a go box! I’m not averse to paying the money, I’ll happily pay €100-200 to travel through Austria, it’s the hoops you have to go through getting one, maintaining the credit (although that’s quite straight forward, but expensive) and handing it back! The bit I’m going to struggle with is the paperwork to give to asfinag, I haven’t got a CoC for the conversion with the right info on (I don’t think)!! Maybe I’d better check with someone who’s done the paperwork???

First trip to Austria and new to Motorhoming we did not know about a go box and just brought a vignette being a little over the 3500 mark. Last trip just avoided motorways all together in Austria and no hassle.

I agree if they made it easier like the Swiss vignette via an App would pay and use the motorways if needed.

Blimey what a faff ! .....won’t be using motorways in Austria then....try not to use them most places anyway. Only used one in Slovenia by mistake...was looking for the first exit but got pulled in....€300 or so on the spot fine. Does one need a Go Box for Slovenia and Switzerland for 3850kg or just Austria ?

They all use different systems the Swiss is easiest as you can download their app and its about CHF30 for any 10 days in a calendar year.

Yes I’ve had a Swiss one many times but on a 3500kg MH Just bought it at the border....wondered if you needed a Go Box there for a 3850Kg

No box needed, you buy a scratch card at the boarder that you mark each day you are in the country or it can be done on line.

Have a Go Box for Austria but has no funds on it ! Could always use as a blank on your windscreen but beware the naughty boys are everywhere , typical fine €300 . The awkward part of the box for over 3500kg is having to send all paperwork to prove that what engine type I.e. euro 5 etc. Have to send by given date as instructed when you buy the box. Had to photograph all documents on my iPad and send by email. Then get an email back saying approved. What happens if not approved know idea, but they do not make it easy. Only saving grace is that you do not have to wait at Brenner Pass, because you have a box go straight through with the trucks.
Slovenia charge on the motorways and it is easy and cheap, if over 3500kgs go through the left side where trucks go through and pay the fee. If you drive through the normal car automatic section then you will be stopped.

They charge you the highest rate.

The regulations were amended in 2019 to allow vehicles up to 3.5t normally requiring a Vignette to transit from Germany as far as the Kufstein Sud junction on the A12 and then exit, without the need to purchase a Vignette.

There does *not* appear to be a similar concession for vehicles above 3.5t normally requiring a Go Box.

There are two separate sections within the tolling regulations for the two different categories. One (up to 3.5t) has text describing the concession, and the toll map shows a short, toll-free entry section. The other (above 3.5t) does not describe any concession, and the map shows the full section as toll.
