Thinking of booking Portsmouth to Cherbourg for our next trip. Can anyone tell me the earliest you can arrive for the late night sailing. TIA

We park in the boarding lanes its usually ok as long as the ferry before your crossing has sailed. We used to get the 08:30 one arriving at the port around 20:00

If you arrive after or close to the time of the last evening ferry, you can usually park on the forecourt. Just before Covid was the last time we did that. What they don't want is you tangling with the last ferry's vehicles. There was probably 20 or so vans overnighting, any more wouldn't work. It's not great, it's well lit and noisy. Solent marina, Eastney marine parade possible alternatives.

The Churchillian pub stop or the parking areas in front of it are good stops prior or post Portsmouth ferries there is also a good burger van a short walk away.

There's quite a slope on the parking across the road from the Churchillian where "Mick's Monster Burgers" is situated. There is a smaller parking area just to the west of the Churchillian past their car park. Best place is the far end of Marina Keep at Port Solent. Watch out for the speed humps. The one just before the tip is particularly vicious.

It's pretty level here where I stayed which is just past the pub on the left.
