I have been married for 49yrs, love my wife dearly, however, as soon as we get in the M/ home and set off for some predetermined destination, she gets out the bloody satnav on her phone, or, I pad...... we then get 'turn right here'...... should have been left !! take the third exit on this r /about...... should have been second because there is a service road, not an exit road.!!!!!! Is there a course I could get her on to be able to read the bleeding obvious, or am I doomed to a life of rows whenever we want to navigate somewhere....... lots are going to say...... set up the sat nav for your viewing ...... maybe right, but, to be honest I hate the bloody things and would rather use a map !!!!!!

You can't drive and read a map, so yes, "set up the sat nav for your viewing" ;)

What does your wife say about getting in the van with a driver that won't set up a sat nav for himself? :roflmto:

Could you use a map before you leave and write directions on paper, and clip/ tape to dashboard where you can both see it
Spot on
to op what method did you use before the phone as above ?
take battery out of the phone problem solved. Minor argument ensues. ps we are on 46 years and expect 50 if I last that long
(PS murder not on her mind)

It’s the “Oh, we should have turned off there” - 200m on that gets me.

I have 3 sat nav’s and mrs H doesn’t guide - important to have an odd number as the don’t always agree.

Sat navs do usually count service roads off roundabouts as exits (they literally are exits from the roundabout). The instructions are given with plenty of advice about in how many metres it will want you to turn left or right, so listen to it and calculate. Once you learn the basics of how sat navs work, you should not have problems.

That's just bad driving.
Agreed, he wanted to carry on driving and then do a 3 point turn, I told him "Reverse, reverse now as quickly as you can" would be interesting to know what a driving instructor would say about that. He was exhausted after hours of driving to be fair and scared of me :ROFLMAO:

Why don’t you let her drive and you navigate then?
She is now over 70 and wouldn't renew her licence for 3.5 T....... added to that she really doesn't want to drive, and to be honest I don't want her to...... just fed up with rows on navigation.... she doesn't do it on purpose its just not a girly job ( tin helmet on ) !!!

I am not allowed to drive our van, Mr Gina M says only if I do a 6 hours learning course, no chance!!!

Simple choice which annoys you most. The passenger seat nav or the sat nav.

My solution would be Apple CarPlay. As soon as the passenger seat iPad or phone was active for navigation the CarPlay would pick it up and switch the screen and commentary on but you can mute them with less offence than trying to mute the passenger seat nav.

Have you tried asking her "on the next journey my little sweerheart can we use a map and some instructions instead of the satellite navigation system you gorgeous lady"
It might work but then again comments line that might be why I'm single

I love how Google Maps have invested billions of dollars mapping roads everywhere with real time traffic information, speed cameras, re-routing information from real time data, etc etc. What I don't love is whenever I use it I get told "I wouldn't have gone this way", "where is it sending you now?", "it's taking us miles out of the way", "it's just sent you on a big loop", "I would have turned left at the lights back there" and other such delights from Mrs Google.

We both drive the van but only one of us has a sense of direction and it’s not Nick! He can’t map read either which I don’t understand .

We have a sat nav for guidance but I will over ride it if the road didn’t seem correct. Nick would just follow it regardless. It means that if I’m driving he can have a sleep but I can’t do the same unless we’re on a motorway.

You men can stop you’re moaning plrase :giggle:

I believe sat-nav is the only thing that has kept us married - 49 years in August.
Very intelligent wife can’t tell her left from her right which caused issues before sat-nav. One Christmas my parents bought her gloves on a string (hope you remember them) which had left and right on them - she put them on the wrong way round !

One of the things I’ve cherished about my partner for over 40 years is his ability to completely refuse to criticise any bad judgement or mistake I make if he’s devolved responsibility for navigating to me
Ive understood for years how exceptional that is

Thats the same as us, husband goes to sleep immediately I am driving, I cannot as he likes to have instructions from me using a paper map so he can “see where he is”. “Point at us on the map” is a common expression. He cannot use any of the mapping apps on phone or even check for bad traffic.
On a motorway, he repeatedly asks me which junction we are aiming for.
