Place to stay near Cherbourg?

We’re making our first trip to France in July, and wondered whether anyone can recommend a good site to overnight a couple of hours from Cherbourg, en route to Tours. Any tips appreciated.

Personally, I would consider using an aire for one night. The usual apps will help you, search for sites, park 4 night, camper contact and so on.

We did our first trip to France and Spain and were amazed at how good the aires are.

Bayeux municipal site, in the town but easy access, parkland setting, not out of your way. Wander off a bit and go to Arromanche, sites and aires. Plenty of choices around Caen, decent camping car park by the Caen Memorial.
