I've just had my gearbox repaired and was told that the gearbox was full of water, and it's a fairly common problem. I was advised that there may be a gearbox cover plate out there to fix over the gearbox so as to keep the rainwater off. Does anyone know any more about this, if I can buy one or make something myself?

Also, any suggestions about keeping rainwater out of the engine bay?

Likely run off from the wind screen scuttle tray. There were 2 drain holes on mine each side of the engine bay. Previous owner had fitted small bore hose from both to bypass the engine. When I got it they were both blocked once clear rain drained away with no problem. I think there was a Peugeot plastic plate that could be bolted on, bit of fish tank air hose cheap and easy fix

Absolutely brilliant and accurate video.
I have done exactly as this and it has so far been good.
However I have also purchased a tyvek screen and bonnet cover which covers the entire screen, side windows and bonnet, wings and front grill, and attaches via some pockets to each door at the top and then by an assortment of elasticated straps that can be clipped where accesable in order to keep the cover tight.
This is not a Thermal cover but could be of use in summer from sun, but it is waterproof and has proved very effective in keeping water off the engine bay when the Motorhome is laid up during the winter months.
My van engine bay is identical to the one as shown in the video, Fiat Ducato 1.9td
2000 model.
The cover I bought is made by I think Bruner, purchased from a supplier called Vancomfort (www.vancomfort.co.uk) who also trade under the name of Beeversales Components Ltd and are in Retford, Nottinghamshire DN22 7WF.
The part number for mine for my age of van is “VC33FI0101 Protective Cover Fiat Ducato 94 to 06 Part Front” but they make a variety for various makes and models.
Phone number is 01777 701804.
Mine cost £125.00 inc vat and has , and still is, worth every penny!
Hope this helps 😊👍
