Overnighter near Yeovil

Going from London to Cornwall and was thinking of breaking the journey near Yeovil. Yeovil/Honiton area considered.
Any good but quiet stops please.
This could be our first bit of 'wild camping' as still new to this.

Cartgate can be a dogging area at the weekends. Which day and date do you expect to be in the area of Yeovil?

Thanks for your help.
I know Cartgate from many a bacon butty whilst travelling the 303. Hadn't considered stopping there overnight though until mentioned.
We are travelling down on the 26th May (Tuesday). So hopefully will miss the headlight flashers although might be entertaining!

Thee Cross Keys at Lydford Cross on the A37, north of A303 Poddimore roundabout has a nice small site behind it, long Hazel Caravan Park at Sparkford is Adults only, or you might like to check out this link.

Stayed there last week, great site very clean and eggs so fresh he had to chase the chickens to get them!
