Away in Ireland at the moment and suddenly the hob flame has turned orange. I know this is not good and it could produce a lot of carbon monoxide. I have changed over to the red calor bottle but made no difference. Any thoughts?/ advice

Is it just one burner ?
Try the other burners on your hob .
How about the oven ?
Just one burner it just needs a clean , all burners it’s more likely to be a regulator or cylinder problem.

it was all the burners, I gave the regulator a tap which seams to have improved things, the flame is now mainly blue. Not sure if a regulator is a mechanical device, but seams to have responded to a tap with a Birmingham screwdriver.
Thanks for the input.

If your regulator is starting to play up then I would personally start looking for a replacement 👍
They will eventually fail completely .

I know that device, it is the short handle version, always better off with a Manchester screwdriver, longer handle and bigger head:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Have you got a Carbon Monoxide alarm?
Yep, but I wouldn’t use it to bash the regulator 😄 The flame is now blue. We had recently refilled the gas low bottle, maybe that stirred up some dirt and blocked the jets or regulator.

More likely to be oily condensate forming in the pipe. The gas should leave the bottle as vapour so it can’t carry dirt but it can carry some oily substances that are well known to destroy some regulators. I have a filter and have to clean the oily gunk out from time to time but have never found any dirt in it. The pipe from the bottle should go uphill all the way to the regulator so that the oily gunk runs back to the bottle but if the gradient is insufficient a filter will intercept it.

You could always resort to the 1 1/2pound air cooled micrometer, they are available in other sizes up to 7lbs

Yes I have a static caravan as well and regulators are dated and have 10yrs life and gas rubber tubes are dates and have 5yrs life. I changed my regulator a few weeks back after a similar thing, I could tap it and make the flame better, but next use of cooker it was the same.

I would love to see your hoses with a 5 year life ?
I have been fighting this one for years, NCC have just released a technical bulletin as the leisure industry fitters have been giving their victims Ooops customers 😂 incorrect information.

I'm now in France and mine has done the same thing this morning burning yellow and a pretty strong smell off the burner on the hob. I just opened a window while I boiled the kettle, then the carbon monoxide alarm went off:rolleyes:
I'm going to try cleaning the burners and the screwdriver thing but can I pick up a suitable regulator in France? I'm currently in St. Omer but moving on tomorrow.

Same issue here. After about 1 minute, one ring starts hissing and burning with a yellow tip to the flame. The other two rings burn blue all day with no issues. Everything else gas-ish works fine, fridge, heater, water and BBQ outlet.

I took off the ring cover and wire brushed it. I then put a paperclip tip into the gas hole. I felt something move slightly inside as I pushed and figured that there had been a blockage. Problem is that whatever it was is still in there. I just don't use that ring now.

If the problem is a residue in the gas pipes, can they be cleaned? A giant pipe cleaner or something!?

Nooooooo , never poke gas jets with metal objects ⚠️
Post a picture of your burner and jet as most are easily replaceable.
You can also blow through your appliance if there really is a foreign body (normally food residue or rust )

Look at your local Brico Depot online - they may have what you need?

Basildog

You should be able to find the gas hoses in the Brico Depot online catalogue (Brico Depot, B&Q, Screwfix are all part of the same group - I think it's Kingfisher?)

I changed the gas bottle from my Calor over to my Gaslow and it seems to be OK. I'll just change the regulator when I get home to be on the safe side.

A faulty regulator put on a nice full bottle will very often operate for a while, it’s in exactly this situation that we see people who spend 20 - 30 minutes on an LPG pump trying to add a few litres as they are convinced they are out of gas .
They end up with an overfilled cylinder ⚠️

We're barely using any gas, so a new regulator when I get home is the first thing I'll do
