Reported in North Wales News today that funding has been provided to the council for the setting up of six French style Aires. This comes after a great number of complaints about MHs parking up on residential streets, at last a move in the right direction.

Not that we will ever return to the UK at motorhomers....it's good to see that moves are being made to accommodate motorhomes...
The use a campsite attitude is somewhat outdated....OK for caravans or tenters...but as we all know...once a motorhome is parked up, it becomes a self contained unit...so the demands are greatly reduced...
A similar situation was evident here in Spain about 20 years ago...everyone used caravans and went to campsites...however as Motorhoming has somewhat increased, as have the places to park up....
I'm sure the UK in time will catch up with the rest of Europe....and provide overnight park-up....for those of you that need this, I hope it becomes reality in time...(y)

Thought this might be of interest to anyone looking at this thread

Aberystwyth rugby club also welcomes motorhomes 12 + spaces ,£10 a night all facilities , 5 mins walk through park to supermarket and town but you must ring or email and pay by card they will then give you code for locked gate .

Motorhomers in North Wales have been as welcome as boil on the bum. When we were there this summer almost every car park forbade the parking of motorhomes. Then they get annoyed because they park on residential streets!

Hopefully this will be the start of a serious rethink.
The parts of north wales that have been doing the most complaining , Llandudno, Ross on sea ,Colwyn bay are not part of Gwynedd so don't think they will do anything . Gwynedd starts on the coast just past LLanfairfechan.

Thanks. I am aware of the geography of that region.:giggle:

£16.50 a night. But steep for a car park. It is just for the night to 4pm to 10am so another cost to stay the day I expect. Almost campsite rates for 24 hours.

Just checked and Haven holiday site just up the road from Criccieth , they want £17 a night with electric , drain and water, showers and toilet or £55 for 5 nights,
Stayed there a couple of weeks ago facilities were immaculate.

Aires are good when traveling, we use them extensively , but we prefer a site if staying for more than a couple of nights.. and happy to pay the extra for a nice pitch rather than a carpark bay ..

Having a barbie, relaxing in the sun on a lounger, with tables and chairs out is not really possible on a busy aire.. even if there were space, is not allowed..

The use a campsite attitude is somewhat outdated....OK for caravans or tenters

I don't consider my attitude is outdated ..

At least they didn’t photoshop the rail track.

yes, that is odd.. works out at a £1 per hour.. and no mention of 'day' rate from 10am until 4pm..

generally parking on aires you pay for 24 hours .

what do you do if you arrive at 2 pm.. or anytime outside the specified hours.. it that allowed and if so, how much is it ?

The UK won’t ever catch up.

I think going forward new facilities and CL/CS will only be useful on hard standing. The trend towards wetter winters will make grass sites at best unreliable and at worst useless for a good part of the year.

In post #11 the link to the description of the scheme uses 'preventing' once and 'control' three times. Says a lot'

On top of the £16.50 there is a charge of £3 for 10 mins water!!!

Only one site has facilities but the charges at the other sites are the same £16.50

Will cars be allowed to park on the yellow hached areas, as they are not required to keep 6m distance, even LPG powered ones?

In my view the scheme is nothing like French village aires as purported.

Compare their scheme with Canterbury's P+R which gives one up to 48 hours (0001 day one till 2359 day 2 for £8 with FREE facilities AND free multiple bus rides into the City for up to 6 people.

Canterbury has no 6m rule. Maybe the private campsite owners in Gwynedd have leant on the council to impose this to restrict the number of public spaces available.

And £3 extra for ten minutes use of the fresh water bollard.
