Although we've been to Spain many times, we have been to the south. This year we're staying for a month by the beach, but then intend to head north. We have stayed in Zaragoza, but only overnight on the way to the ferry.
So any recommendations for campsite (we have a caravan) or places to visit welcome.

Laredo, Camping Playa del Regaton. Halfway between Santander & Bilbao. €19 in 2023
All my other stops up that way have been aires, so not applicable for you.

Camping Orio (at Orio) is a good site, by the beach and walkable into town where you can take the train to San Sebastian (a great day out). The campsite takes the ACSI card in May and June.

Thanks for the recommendations, we'll definitely check them out. Do we need to book? It's likely to be June by the time we get there.

Camping virgen de la mer. Outskirts of Santander is nice. Regular bus into the city.

Second vote for Orio. Not the best site ever but town is ok and train to San Sebastian is very handy and just a short walk from the campsite.

If you get as far as Galicia Camping San Francisco at Louro is in a nice location.

But I would just get the ACSI card and books and use the sites they recommend. Even if the discount period has run out the sites will be the same.

I don't think you need to book.

For Camping Orio the ACSI website states "reservation recommended for low season" - click the "Miscellaneous" listing under the "Facilities" heading here: Camping Orio.

I forgot to mention there is a small restaurant at Camping Regaton. We just turned up with our ACSI card at beginning of June .Fairly busy but not packed.

Potes in the Picos de Europa is a camping Mecca. Not sure about campsites for a caravan but you may care to read up on the area.

Nearby you have Fuente Dé - which used to be the longest single-span cable care in the world and is still the longest in Europe. There is a 5 mile or so downhill walk from the summit back to Fuente Dé. (The link below to a longer return route):

I second PlacidoD's recommendation for Potes. Camping La Viorna is a very good site that also gives a discount for the ACSI card in May/June.

I have to be more careful now I have a caravan, I can't just park anywhere these days.
