Hi all, at Issoire using a sim from sim corner it’s a Movistar one. Good last night but today nothing. Showing four bars when I log on 192.168.8.1 tried two routers but no joy. Ideas please. Its a 200 gb sim used 85 gb

Fixing problems like this are usually a question of ruling out posiblities in a logical sequence. You're in the same spot as last night? If so then we know the tower signal gets to your location.

Next question, are you next to a venue where lots of people have gathered since last night? Could just be a saturated network.

If not, then try your phone SIM in one of the routers (or both) If that works then you know the issue is the Movistar SIM somehow.

Perhaps try the universal 'rub the SIM on your sleeve' method of cleaning it or use an alcohol wipe if you have one.

The 'four bars' might be misleading. The WiFi signal from the router can be strong, but if the signal it's receiving isn't then it's irrelevant. It's just doing a really good job of broadcasting a really bad signal.

I'm presuming you've done the thing where you turn the routers off and then back on, but if you haven't then that's probably the first thing to try.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

If you have restarted everything do you have another device you can connect to check its not the laptop, phone, tablet?

If all else fails you could always try ChatGPT. I used it the other day to get a an old NAS Server up and running. Its absolutely brilliant. just talk to it like you would if you were asking a help desk.

Many thanks for the replies, I have gone down the on/off remove sim rub and reinstall. Reset both of my routers both show four bars at 192.168.8.1 had good speed last night but no joy today.

That’s what I have done more than once the upload download connector is going up slowly

Switch the connection off and then reconnect. I do that when in hospital and it's an iffy connection on the saved settings.

It's odd but I can't connect to MHF on the hospital public network. Faceache, email etc all work fine. Google is s..l..o..w

Take the sim out of the router and put it in a phone, quickest and easiest way to see if it's a sim or router problem. I suspect it's a sim issue but this will prove it

Done that tried in two phones nothing, not been impressed with this sim a couple of times it’s failed to work. Have been using various sim’s in various routers for many years and not being able to wiz kid (76) have always managed to make them work.

If the SIM isn't working in two routers and two phones then you've eliminated every other common factor and possibility.

We also know that it's getting some level of connection (if you can call 360k that!) so we know it's not dirty contacts otherwise you'd get nothing at all.

The only thing I can think is either that it's faulty or that a big 'background' download took place overnight (Windows update for example) and it's used all your data.

Either way, I wouldn't be wasting any more time with it. I'd be off finding a replacement SIM.

Thanks it’s only used in an iPad and I phone 12 so no windows etc. background refresh disabled. Suggestions for a data only sim whilst in France fo 10 weeks 10 to 15 gb a day use

Your issue is going to be the provider, as not working in other devices proves this, i would give them a call.

Having sent several mails the reply was turn off wait 5 then back on again. It had already been off for two hours as was using my spare IQ SIM. No explanation given.

That is simply not good enough, ask for it to be escalated or to be passed to a manager if nothing ask to raise a complaint as that usually has an impact. If still nothing, and you have paid for it with a credit card, log a complaint with the credit card company and get a refund and let them chase them. Some companies are truly diabolical when in need of assistance but if they won't take it seriously its time to push it further.
