We took delivery of our new van and my printer has been flat out printing whatnots and doodads.

Mostly printed in Elegoo ASA-CF which I'm really happy with - the surface finish with 0.16mm layer height looks almost injection moulded. The white hooks on the electrics cupboard are PA-6 since they will have to take more wight and they're under some odd strains when they do it.

All my designs except the Bip and Go and gas adapter mount. All available on Printables if anyone would like to make them. Some are fairly specific to Xtura though - the hooks are replicas of the ones Euramobil fit.

I didn't know about that material, I do now.
I've been printing nearly everything in ABS, I've found it so much easier to work with than PLA or PET-G.
About that……what you been printing Carthago wise that I could use???
You need to start doing 2 of everything and start sending me stuff🤔👍

Any recommendations from you or LennyHB on a printer, I’d like to make a start but not sure which printer to choose. Cheers.

I bought Rog NotJane old one he was upgrading, It's an AnkerMate M5B-C have been very pleased with it.

I have a QIDI plus4. I’m very happy with it and the print quality is great. They just launched a smaller slightly upgraded Q2 which looks good. However… QIDI do need a lot of tinkering to get them printing really well.

It all depends on what you want to make. For something that’s going in a van, you need to print plastics with a higher “melting” point - ABS, ASA or Nylon.

If i were buying a new printer today, I’d get a Bambu. There’s one at every price point and although they’re more expensive than others, they are as close to print-out-of-the box as you’ll get. If you want to easily print those fancy plastics you’ll need to spend a little more and get a x1c. That said, Lenny is printing ABS on my old printer :-)

There is a really good recommendations doc on the r/3dprinting subreddit.

Thanks, Rog NotJane, that’s great advice and very helpful. Cheers.

I've got a Creality K1Max, but I wouldn't recommend it for a newbie as I've had issues with the stepper motor/filament feed. It seems alright now though, after changing to an aftermarket filament feed, but if I had been new to it then I would have struggled.

I would strongly suggest you buy a printer with an enclosure, or the ability to be enclosed simply, if you're going to be printing things for external exposure etc.

Well this nooby is getting on just fine with my Elgoo Creality Carbon. Printed lots of stuff from online libraries, designed a couple of little things. No issues with set-up and use using bog standard PLA+. PETG arriving Thursday for some outdoor stuff ..
Humidity here fluctuates wildly, 69% was seen yesterday so I print direct from a modded Creality 2-spool drier.
CAD may be the hard bit ...

ABS is notoriously hard to print with. And it stinks! You've got some very odd printer settings Lenny!

ASA is basically ABS but with less smell and less shrinkage issues.

I'm still using PLA for nearly everything because it's fast, easy and cheap <insert lewd joke here>. Only stuff that's on the dashboard is PETG. I will have to give ASA CF a try though, apparently it's hard and tough enough to be used for some pretty stressful engineering applications like gears.

That's what everyone tells me but I have found it far easier to print with and no smell.
I'm using ABS+, printer settings nozzle 260°, bed 100°.

Do you find the ASA CF shrinks and warps less than regular ASA.

Turn the van round and come back to the UK, I need you to make me one of those continental adapter mount thingy whatnots.
