I’ve just received the following update to Schengen entry, effective from May 2023.
It is from a property consultancy in Gibraltar who deal with a considerable number of non-Schengen clients.

I assume it is accurate and might be informative to some.

Dear Eric

The EU’s new Entry and Exit System (EES), which will automatically check the validity of passports and visas of visitors from countries outside the Schengen area each time they cross an EU external border, is due to be implemented in May 2023. It will replace the system of manually stamping passports, which is currently the only way that border officials can monitor whether visitors remain within their 90-day limit for visa-free travel. The new system will require you to register your fingerprints and an image of your face. These will then be stored in the form of biometric data on the EU’s computers. Later next year, another new system is to be introduced (European Travel Information and Authorisation System – ETIAS) which obliges Schengen visitors to have and pay for an electronic pass before travel which will be valid for three years. More info.

ETIAS, and maybe EES, has been postponed until towards the end of 2023 (November atm).

Hi.
The cry. " Why should i/we carry I.D. Cards " Springs to mind. :ROFLMAO: . Big Brother.....Oooops ... EU ?...That info will be WELL safe in their hands....Next.... NO axe to grind. Does that mean the people travelling across the channel in small boats will have to submit theirs ?
All this, while a country is fighting for its very existance . Life goes on.........
" Then you have the What ifs ? " ( Ray Moore RIP oft quoted phrase . Radio 2 in the good old days )

PS. To whom it may concern (PC ? )... Better ring your tailors up,they will be wanting your inside leg measurement next.

All sounds good to me if it speeds up flow through immigration. 👍

Should be particularly helpful at airports, as well. 😃
