Well we've had a "new bike Friday" thread...

Mine new ride is in store but i can't get there until Monday so a few sleeps until then. This time slightly more roady vs my CX although not much more even if Jim has been subliminally brain washing me with images of his Celeste coloured machine.

I'll keep you all guessing as it's a slightly obscure choice although it may be from North of the USA.....

Back up North in the UK next week so i'll have some time to run her in around, just need to find some pedals.

Thought a picture was due as I picked up the new machine last week:

Still in set up mode but starting to find a good riding position, may take a few more Km's though.

When we get back home i'm going to see if i can squeeze on some 35mm tyres, these are skinny 28mms:D although the spec says 32mm is the max but i reckon 35mm may just fit.

Few things to sort out including the overall set up but that's all part of the fun of a new bike.

Someone has nicked the engine ;);):)
Nice bike though. I like the crank. (Weird, I know. It’s the engineer in me) !!!!!!

I like the idea of disguising the battery as a water bottle.

I wish although my fat belly needs to be reduced so my legs need to do some work...

Forget too add that it's a Cervelo C3, sort of light gravel/adventure / endurance bike. We'll soon see how much gravel/adventure it can handle but certainly nothing like my CX can which practically gets hardtail routes most weeks. But it's a dream on road and so will likely be my April - October ride.

I could never understand these saddles on these types of bikes. I'm sure they must have been designed by a woman. lol
Nice bike though.
Best Wishes Tony

Funnily enough i saw an R3 about a week ago in a shop in Newbury, very nice bike indeed although i imagine your Giant is just as nice:)

When i was in the research phase and talking to the shop where i got the C3 from the guy on the phone misheard me and thought i was asking about a P3, he was slightly confused when i asked about's gravel capability and tyre clearance.....

So far very happy with the C3, done just coming up for 500km on it so far and it's just a pleasure. Took a short cut on the way back yesterday through the forest for the first time, it coped really well even if on skinny 28mm slicks.

I have friends with Cervelos and our local cycle shop sells them, but by the time you added all the bits I wanted it was nearly twice the price. I love the sculpted tube around the rear wheel. It was also the first expensive bike I bought so I dipping my toes in bit.

Next time.......

Hope you had a good experience in that shop in Newbury - my son manages it!

I visited 2 actually although they were practically next door to each other and i think they had the same owner ? the main reason to visit is that one was a Specialized concept store and then if you're there it would be rude not to pop next door to browse around:)

Both shops were really great although the young lady in the Specialized shop was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, so much so that i came away £120 lighter:whistle:

I assume it's one of these 2 that your son manages ?

Yep, same owner. He runs the "proper" bike shop - though tends to ride/wear specialized bikes & kit. Very easy to spend in either shop! Glad to hear it was a good visit :)

View media item 23301I opted for a "gravel" bike too. Collected last Thursday from Wheelbase, Staveley (good discount).
The first 80 miles done a mixture on and off road and almost "dialled-in".
Am trying to only adjust one thing at a time.

I recently popped in to the Yeovil Tri Centre, which is next to Lidl on the outskirts. Biggest bike shop and widest choice of bikes I have ever seen. Worth a nose if you are nearby.

You're braver than me running a 1x although i do like that dinner plate rear cassette, i assume 11 - 42 ?

I don't think you'll regret riding a CX, especially after mixing up the roads, trails and gravel tracks as things start to get colder and wetter. Just be a ready with some warm clothes very soon as the bike is no longer an excuse to not be out there;)

That's where my C3 was from. Super nice guys there and they managed a price match which was very nice indeed(y)

They even swapped the brake cables over to the correct way around:whistle: they have an amazing range of bikes there and they also offer a nice bike fit service.

Need them to support my "portly" physique, 23mm rubber bands would probably explode, tis getting near that time to swap them over though, soon some 32 Schwalbe or hopefully 35mm CX Kings will be on there(y)

Absolutely love the 1x11 on our off-road tandem. We went through 3 chains in a couple of weeks once. Since then ( x fingers ) we haven't had any issueswiththe chainat all. Though we had to buy a new chain ring in the Morvan, France. 34 down to 30! The guy who owned the bike shop said: "Nobody rides anything bigger than a 30 here!"

Yes Ridgeway, I opted for 40 front and 42 rear. I have been a Whyte fan many years and my Whyte E120xl is for sale now.
It's my first try on 1x11 but so far all is well. Hebden Bridge to Oxenhope was if anything easier. Today was 40 odd on the road from Perth north and back with no problems.
Phil.
