I'm a newbie
Hi everyone,Please help, I'm on a site in Worcestershire I heard a bang and one of my Leaf springs has completely snapped in half,,lucky it happened when stationery, but what can I do to sort it out ?...regards Paul & Pippa

a new leaf spring is required. hopefully you are with a breakdown company

Oh crumbs! Sorry cannot help except to keep it up on front page.
Hope you get it sorted.

You need a new spring, or best to buy a pair. I doubt you could limp to a garage, might need recovery....

you will be transported by a low loader to a garage

Wow must have been one hell of a night (y)(y);) hope you get it sorted quickly.

I agree with above, nothing you can do I am afraid, the van is immobile. I hope the garage can get new replacement springs for you quickly.
Fingers crossed.

Thinking further about this The AA will offer you return to home or nearest approved garage, difficult choice maybe, as I think the garage may need the van for a couple of days, maybe more:eek:
Its no fun in this bad weather either, but when you do get the new springs fitted, think about fitting Air Assist (suspension air bags that fit between leaf spring and chassis) these improve the ride and handling and take a lot of pressure off the springs also.
Its the next mod for me to look at doing, but in the summer not this time of year.
Good luck, hope you get home safe.

Thanks Les, but this is our home, we are full time newbies (6 months) with 2 dogs, so we're in a bit of a fix atm

Yea I did pick up on that, but was secretly hoping the full timing bit was in the future, not as present time.
I wonder if The AA will cover motel costs for you as its your main residence so to speak?
Good luck, let us know what happens.
Les

I would delay calling AA until you have sourced a garage and parts , and a fitting time then call AA to take you to garage. That way you can live in it until you leave at garage , and get a motel for a night or so . It is good you are on a site , as the AA would most likely not take it if it was at home address . You are obviously on a touring holiday ?:)

Where in Worcestershire are you , for nearby possible garage , and what chassis is vehicle .

Is it a single leaf spring..
If theres more than one leaf and its only one leaf thats gone ive driven a van like that ..all be it not recommend..but it could get you to a garage..
If its a single leaf you will be sitting on the bump stop.. the danger of moving it is the broken spring fouling the tyre or moving parts.. so you will most prob need recovering to a garage..
Hope you can sort that tomorrow..
Andy.

we're in Ombersley and a Fiat Ducato chassis

Might be worth getting it weighed once you get back on the road. Hope you get sorted soon and weather is not to bad.

the leaf spring were mentioned on the previous MOT when we bought it , but passed 6 months ago with no mention..

Can anyone recommend a decent garage near you, then maybe a travel lodge or similar?

It’s not easy to recover a motorhome with a completely broken leaf spring but another option you may wish to explore could be to have the spring replaced where you’re parked now, it’s not a particularly difficult job.
You could try a local garage asking if they could recommend a mobile mechanic who could come to you, the other side could be done in a nice warm workshop once the van is mobile.

Yes I have changed a rear spring on my drive and it wasn’t difficult but I hasten to add it wasn’t a Motorhome.
