Lots now
I used to be able to do 5 to 6 hours if not more of driving when we wanted to get across country's fast. We are doing 3 hours a day driving across France and I'm bloody knackered.
We are still managing to do the local tourist bits when we pitch up but it just seems as its such an effort.
I can't wait till after the after dusseldorf salon to do a slow meander along the mosel.

Lucky you being allowed to go to Dusseldorf (y) I have been banned:unsure: not by MORELO of course but by a much higher power, you have met Jen;)
I’m going, give me your “card” and I’ll sort one out for you👍👍

I’m going to pick up a new Carthago…..

Carrier bag

To be fair we will save money as we are downsizing.

I can take pictures off anything , just let me know 😁
Just VarioMobil please if you are passing, well if you aren't maybe just a slight detour would be in order and then next time we see you you could possibly extol the virtues of the aforementioned, I keep dropping it into conversations but I seem to be getting nowhere.

On a slightly more serious note have a look at the new Flair and let me/us know what you think.

Oh and yes you are getting old ;)

I normally go about 7-8 hours drive if I want to push on a bit but that includes a stop every couple of hours for the pups to have a run/sniff around and us a cuppa.

Probably mileage wise 350 in a day is my limit but most times I’m happy with 250 depending if I want to get somewhere fairly quickly.
We are off in a few weeks and 800 miles to where I want to be so will do that in 3 days then it’s a potter around and 50-75 miles in between stopovers after that and slow drive back to the factory for work on van.

We regularly do a run up to Wigan from Southampton. On our last run back, we used a non-motorway route which took 6 hrs instead of 4 (ish) but actually left me feeling a lot livelier at the end of it, with only two short stops.
Not the first time we've done this sort of route: I think having more driving to do rather than just droning along the motorway, helps.

In France though that becomes a tough ask as every 5 miles its 30km an hour

With parents in Cornwall and me in London since my late teens, I used to do the 275 mile run in each direction every 6-8 weeks, just for the weekend. It would take anywhere between 4.30hrs and 10.30hrs, but typically around 6-7hrs door to door.
(In 45 years of driving the route at least 500 times, it's probably got slower not faster!)

I used to do a lot of large van driving in my 20's and 30's.
Even then I reckoned around 300 miles was enough for a day in the UK, driving in western Europe where the roads are a lot better I've done the 450 miles to Berlin in a day in about the same time as the Cornwall run.

Nowadays, the 275 mile Cornwall run (still have a sister and other reli's there) is as far as I'll go in a single day.

We share the driving used to be 80/20 with me doing the majority, but now more like 60/40 since we got the auto.

In the 90s I would drive my max hours every day, and some if I needed to be somewhere. I did enjoy the driver friendly tacos that used to be fitted.
3-4 hours now and I’ve had enough.

I must be getting old as well every time I swap a car now I seem to buy an auto, soon everything will be auto apart from my motorbike, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to ride it again🥲🥲
Never liked autos; a car had to be driven and worked through the gears was my mantra! However having reluctantly had an auto car for many years I have been converted. Autos are now so good a manual has now been relegated to a relic of history. I have now had to admit to my detractors of many years that sayings 'that once you have gone automatic you will never return to a manual' are correct. They were and are now right in my view and the case with a Camper/Motorhome has made that choice of an auto even more compelling!

Although a slight thread drift, I fully agree with the Auto choice in any vehicle, however if the only choice was a robotised Crapmatic Gearbox, I would stick to manual every time, so glad I did as seeing so many threads on software glitches, plus other things I think I may have some agro & dosh.
Nowadays of course most have the ZF gearbox which is a whole different ballgame, and a much better choice for a motor home.

Like you, Mr porky, I think nothing of driving 5 or 6 hours to get across countries. I would rather do that than queue at an airport, sit in a sardine can, arrive at another airport that can't find my luggage and pay a taxi to take me to a charmless hotel. All of which will take more than 5 or 6 hours and won't allow me to see anything out of the window, take photos, eat where and what I like, go for a walk, etc. I feel the same about cruises. Sitting for hours on a boat, making small talk with strangers, eating far more than is good for you and when you arrive in port only seeing a fraction of the country you're visiting.
I love driving. I hope they never take the keys off me. If I could I'd like to drive the hearse to my funeral.

I averaged 6 to 10 miles a day on the Mosel, but your arm gets very tired with all the extra beer time you get ;)

Complete opposite here. I'm totally bored with autos and steadily going back to manuals. I disagree with Mr porky I love driving through France, lots of wonderful good quality but quiet roads, but then I pick my own routes and only use GPS as a reference.

Totally agree with KiwiKampers about flying and cruises, how not to experiece places!

Don't get me wrong I enjoy France and the slow sojourn to the next spot is enjoyable but that is when you don't have to be somewhere at the end of the week 🙂

You could always ask Phil to pass his bike test and then you could have an escort outrider, how posh would that be!

Hi folks, yes we all have done those long drives to ‘get there’ but now we tend to take time. Drive for a few hours at a steady pace, enjoy the music and the views. For u the drive is part of the holiday, and starts as we pull off our drive. If we wanted to go fast we would use my Jaguar.

Chill, you’re on holiday.

Like you Mr porky , I do no more than 200 miles now at lot gentler pace , but on my first ever trip in my then VW Devon back in early 1980's did 700 miles first day Calais down too somewhere beyond Lyon near towards Avignon , but as now 76 (quite a bit older than yourself ) I find it difficult to concentrate & get tired easily.
