Its a headache for all Garages as habitation Gas is 5% vat, and road Fuel Gas is 20% Vat,
they are not allowed to charge over the top without falling out with the Vat Man
so you might see why some dont want to know Mo HO especially those that may have complained
Some just dont care either way as there happy to charge and pay vat at the same road rate
They dont have to. it's actually an offence to overcharge vat more than the due rateFinding LPG is easier with two apps. "My LPG" and "Fill LPG". Morrison's had some sort of incident with someone trying to fill a standard bottle so issued instructions to staff not to fill them (after all forecourt staff can't be expected to tell refillables from exchange bottles). Not all forecourts comply. Filling at gas supplier businesses will not attract the same VAT as garages who have to tax it as 'vehicle propulsion' rather than 'Domestic cooking and heating'. Calor make HUGE profits on their monopoly of exchange bottles!

Yes it's the same old story with Calor depots too we have had trouble at both Calor and Morrisons.I have answered this a number of times before when the same issue with Morrison’s has been posted.
We always fill up at Morrison’s in Ipswich as do many other motorhomers. I have asked them before if there was any instructions from HO not to allow m/h’s to fill and was told they were not aware of any such instruction.
There is a Marquis branch just round the corner from Morrison’s who also fill with diesel and lpg there.
It seems to depend on the individual branch of Morrison’s.

I am glad that you are not the only one as we find LPG a complete pain especially when we were running the Winnebago on it !LPG stations as as rare as rocking horse near Camberley Surrey, I am always happy to pay any asking price(give or take 10P) these days to get a chance to fill up!
All the morrisons shops down here that have Fuel, dont offer LPG, which is a bit strange init?

Considering the savings I enjoy with my Gaslow setup vs exchangeable Calor cylinders I really don't worry about paying the extra 15% VAT.Some just dont care either way as there happy to charge and pay vat at the same road rate
if they cannot tell if a mh is being filled correctly then how would they know a car is? Anyway they should all have done a petroleum course just to work in the filling station which should encompass that.I think that quite few people have experienced this, following an incident whereby someone had a fire whilst filling their LPG tank. Morrison’s view was that their staff were not sufficiently trained to determine if LPG was being filled safely or not and thus banned motorhome filling.
you just charge as fuel and if it gets brought up then tell them to ascertain hoe they want it done and until they do it stays as it isThey dont have to. it's actually an offence to overcharge vat more than the due rate
but separating the two and then trying to convince the vat man that half your sales were only charged at 5%
would have a vat inspection every week![]()
I think it may be to do with people filling actual bottles rather than using a gas hose socket. That seems to be what is read anywayif they cannot tell if a mh is being filled correctly then how would they know a car is? Anyway they should all have done a petroleum course just to work in the filling station which should encompass that.

They can't that's why a fair number of people I know just fit an external filling point on their work van or car and fill Calor bottles .if they cannot tell if a mh is being filled correctly then how would they know a car is? No some of them really do wear gloves but then we have actually seen the ones that put overalls and gloves on to empty the toilet cassette?I turn off the gas before I go to the filling station, as for gloves, your kidding me , right?
Appears to be a few not too far away.LPG stations as as rare as rocking horse near Camberley Surrey, I am always happy to pay any asking price(give or take 10P) these days to get a chance to fill up!

Very wise to when gloves, as if you get any LPG on your skin (which can happen when connecting/disconnecting) it can cause serious burnes.I turn off the gas before I go to the filling station, as for gloves, your kidding me , right?
But only girls wear glovesVery wise to when gloves, as if you get any LPG on your skin (which can happen when connecting/disconnecting) it can cause serious burnes.
Usually only a puff of gas but as it is mostly propane then gloves are a fairly good idea. Having said that, it is a precaution I never take, despite having worked for many years on refrigerated gas tankers!I turn off the gas before I go to the filling station, as for gloves, your kidding me , right?
I worked at East Grinstead Burns unit for a time. Fuel burns ,especially from liquid gases were tricky to treat as it causes instant full depth frostbite. I know it is only a small puff of gas given off but if the valve in your setup is faulty you could be enveloped in liquid gas cloud. your hands are the first thing to stop you being disabled from tightening the nozzle again to stop it. Frozen hands leading to major leak. Doesn't bear thinking about it really .But only girls wear gloves![]()
I'd rather be a big girl and keep my skin. But only girls wear gloves![]()
