I look at MHF at various times on iphone, ipad and pc. There is an option to tick 'stay signed in' which I often tick for ease. Is this bad practice, does it hog the server or does it make no difference other than someone may assume you are present on line rather than merely on line and somewhere else? What is best practice please?

no, makes no difference , but allows you to stay logged in as long as you dont clear your cookies or cache
