What would be members suggestions for a breakdown company ?

It will depend on your own requirements uk, UK / EU,
Size of vehicle etc.
We have ours as part of our motorhome insurance.

My breakdown cover is part of my MH insurance, AXA Assist, but I have just noticed in the policy documents that vehicles are only covered up to 3m high and my MH is 3.1m high.
I have just spoken to AXA Assist and they couldn"t tell me whether I am actually covered or not so I am wondering if there is/are breakdown companies members use that will cover 3.1m high vehicles as I don"t want to find that actually I am not covered ?

Nationwide flexplus account

A very good deal included with the other account extras if you come within the size limitations - maximum 7.5tonnes; 8m long (Europe only) x 2.55m wide. Plus £100 cash back if transferring account from another bank.

I used the recovery element the other day

Yes a long wait but recovered from Barnstaple to Hereford yes some by taxi as they couldn't get the van there in one trip but arrived the following afternoon

Note to everyone, if you need to leave keys for a vehicle please leave them in the service station shop as they will lock them in the safe. Unlike trying to hide them on the vehicle

But aa did call out a diagnostic truck when the van was home as they know they couldn't fix at the road side

you don't say who your insurance company is as most are with comfort & they have breakdown cover which we have been with them for years our last m/h was 5000kg tag so size no problem

Sorry insurance is with Principal and breakdown cover is AXA Assist.
The Assist policy states max length 8m, width 2.55m, height 3m.

CAMC green flag
Mine covers all vehicles I drive and I’ve taken extra for my wife to be covered the same.
They don’t have weight or height or length restrictions.
However, if you travel abroad, you have to pay extra by taking out their Red pennant cover and in my view it’s extortionate.
I also have cover through my MH insurance and that covers abroad but the breakdown cover is just for the MH and no other vehicle.

RAC don’t have restrictions (other than age of vehicle) I believe.

Check RAC' I just got a renewal quote which has RAC as an option but RAC state they do not recover if involved in an accident!

RAC only have no retrictions on their arrival policy through the C&CC. We recently tried to add eu breakdown to our AA policy it is cheaper to buy stand alone for a year than add for 85 days.
Check RAC' I just got a renewal quote which has RAC as an option but RAC state they do not recover if involved in an accident!
Had forgotten about that, thanks for the reminder. we were not going to go with then in any case

If anyone finds one that will allow us dirty foreigners to buy let me know.
Great question.
I can't get breakdown insurance for a large vehicle in ROI where I live. I can't access any breakdown insurance at all for a vehicle over 8m or 7 tons..
As far as I know, products offered by UK based companies, all those above, are not available to non-UK registered vehicles.

Been with RAC Arrival for many years ,all my vehicles covered plus EU touring .Can't fault them .
I just added European breakdown cover to my RAC Arrival .
No limits on size & weight and no limits on repatriation cost. £110 though.

Hi there. We have been with Britannia for years - now part of LV. Very good service for Motorhome and cars. My wife‘s car broke down the other day - late at night on M25. They were quick and kept in touch - they linked to M25 cameras and I could see on line that they had turned a camer on her and the car until it was picked up. I sure others do such things but Britannia get my vote.

I have ours through comfort ins.

I believe the CMC have a deal with green flag that has no restrictions.
Correct Phil D. We have green flag through CMC. covers any vehicle that me or the wife are using. I have used GF twice in the last 12 months to recovery my LR Discovery into the local (to me) LR dealers.

Out at a motorclub event on Wednesday and a question was asked of one of the club members what he thought of RAC recovery. His answer if you have a choice run a mile directly to LV (britannia). Also ties in with surveys done by the likes of Auto express.
didnt know this, we are insured with LV which means they will recover 3.5t+ but otherwise I understand restricted to 3.5t.

only trouble with this account is multi trip travel insurance is not available for over 70s. ( awaiting snide remarks )

Euro breakdown, ok for up to 7m. 90 day trip cover, £80ish for an annual EU policy.

Good to hear about Nationwide Flex Plus - I've just converted for them mostly for the travel insurance (they were one of the few that will cover one of our mad adventure plans!)

But I think (?) I still have fiat breakdown cover? (new ish van)

Which would you call first for the best service? Fiat or Nationwide/AA (assuming abroad?)

I have just received confirmation from my insurers Principal that the AXA Assist breakdown cover they sold me actually only covers MH's up to 1.95m high so my 3.1m high MH is not covered as I thought.
They are suggesting I take out cover with another company they use called ERS Breakdown for £101.
Does anybody have any experience of ERS Breakdown and is £101 a reasonable price ?
