Phew, just recovering from having 4 new injectors fitted to my sprinter... 1750 pounds.
Does this sound about right to funsters? :xeek:

What happened to the good old days when you cud get your own injectors reconditioned for a tenner a piece?? And they call this progress:xdoh:

We took our Mercedes car for a service and I was surprised to be told it needed two new injectors at about £300 each (about 15 years ago) I asked if they had done the service and was there any water in the fuel filter? "oh no we have not done the service yet but shall we fit the injectors"? NO. when we picked it up after service and new filters it was sweet as a nut, a further conversation with the service manager revealed that they did not change fuel filter till over 50,000 miles.

I wasn't happy, he even said "yes I agree with you I ask for mine to be done every year"

Sorry this does not really answer your question other than if you needed new injectors the price is most likely about right at a Mercedes dealer.

Just a quick question why did you need four injectors they should have done a leak of test first, unusual for four to go at the same time.

What year and engine is the van?
How many miles.
Its has done 81,000 miles and is 2008

the garage said did they want me to have all the injectors done because if
one or two had gone the rest may be near to going.
actually l have just found a note on the floor with the name and address of a diesel specialist, so l think they may have got another firm to do the job.

I doubt you actually NEED them, they want to change them. Have a reason for the change not the profit margine of the dealer.
If there is a fault the car will know and it would be lodged in the memory coades with the reason for it. First thing I bought for the van was a PROPER code reader for my MB sprinter, that also covers Smarts as well as most of the cars in the range. It is able to identify wave patterns for the pfiezo injectors and the pressure on the line as well. I do not trust the MB dealers at all as they will upsale al contacts with them,,eg first service quote, oils and filter became £450 + vat for changing loads of things that were nor due for three years, they quoted the fact it was MADE three years before and stood in Hymers for over a year as the reason before coming over here. If you need injectors go to an independent Bosch dealer and ask , a lot cheaper probably. I have just sent my diesel tester kit to a local transpport museum as a exhibit of how it was.

Sprinters are renown for injectors failing, there is usually a weep around the base, the other common fault is blocked oil filters oil is ejected through the dip stick.

sounds about right unfortunately, my mate bought a 58 plate sprinter van with cold and hot starting issues and think the quote for injectors was about 2K he managed to get a couple of secondhand one that work ok and it will now start after a bit of cranking

Had mine replaced on a 2009 C220 when the failed early 2010. Obviously under warranty but by all accounts, a known problem which was supposed to have been rectified.

I believe that they sieze in and can be extremely time consuming to remove ??

I have had a fuel leak of done on my 2003 Sprinter 316 befor I came to Portugal and I don't think it is a pre EFI injectors engine
You're correct: I wasn't thinking of leak-back which can be done on any injector in situ. I assumed pre- or post- injection leak that can only be seen with the injector on a test rig. Sorry :).
