In our last 2 trips away in the summer, the temperatures have made sleeping a bit of a lottery. We are therefore seriously thinking of getting one of the above fans installed. Expensive I know but if anyone has experience of either of them, including the fitting and quality (I don't want exposed channel on the ceiling so am considering having a chat with Rhino Installs), I’d appreciate your thoughts, good or bad! If they work they seem a good compromise, on paper.

We have tried various different fans to date with various degrees of success but most unsuccessful, including the Fiamma Turbo kit fan which was too deep for the Seitz mini Heki so had to be sent back! As we will be keeping the van for a few years yet, we think biting the bullet now is a sensible idea. (That’s my justification anyway!)

Thanks in advance.

I've recently installed the Maxxfan in place of a Dometic aircon unit which got very little use and kept triggering the Class 3 on the peages. My Cheyenne already had a factory-fitted 12v supply to the hatch so no surface wiring was necessary. The deciding factor over the Turbo Vent was that the Maxxfan can be left open and running even in rain as the air vent is hooded. The build is of good quality and fan is quiet enough on the lower settings - I haven't needed it at full whack yet. The open/close motor seems a little noisier and more graunchy than I'd expected but as it only takes a few seconds it's not an issue.

I got mine from RoadPro - don't forget the Broken Link Removed!

We fitted one of these with the dark cover. As a fan it is easy to use and effective. We've found 2 drawbacks no way to black out and when driving there is a draught from it.

We cut a circular cover and fit that inside to act as a blackout, also stops the draught when required.

Fitted a MaxxFan about 6 months ago and had it running almost all time since.

On low speed, it's quiet enough to leave on at night (on extract and with windows on vent it creates a light breeze) and can be left open in rain so no coming back to hot or wet van :)

I have the clear version and modded a mini-heki blind to fit:

But I'm reliably informed an official blind will be available very soon ;)

Appreciate the replies todate. I think a blind is now available which we will go for. So far 3 to Maxxfan!

Need to talk to Rhino Installs about the power supply and whether it can be somehow installed through the styrofoam ceiling!

Saw that video a little earlier. Tempted to get one but wouldn't bother with the LED lighting as cool white is quite unpleasant - they'd have been better as warm white. The material of the slide seems a tad flimsy, too - I can see me poking a clumsy finger into it....

Having watched the video not too sure about the Maxxfan blind. I think we will need to see it in the 'flesh' so too speak.

I'd be interested in what mods @Wissel had to make to the Heki blind for it to fit! Looks an excellent job.

I saw the Maxxfan blind at the NEC Motorhome show and it looked well made the fan can still be used with the blinds closed.

To be difficult I have the Fiamma turbo one. Works fine but no blind on it. I have the nonseethrough top but no blind. If it's light we get up. There is a winter thermal cover but only used it a couple of times.

Just looking to buy one of these - looking at Roadpro's website, there is a choice of 3 colours

BROKEN LINK

Clear, Smoke or White - any advantages/disadvantages to any particular colour that anyone knows of?
Also, how do you get the funster discount? Have tried putting MHF in the discount code box but this did not work - now found :D FUN 5 gets you 5% discount(y)

Cheers

Bear in mind nighttime use, there is no built-in blind so street/moon light can be a pia. You can get a roller blind which fits well but not cheap.

Thanks for that Neil, we've seen the blind & agree it's not cheap! We've got a spare mini heiki blind that we will probably "adapt" as mentioned by Wissel

We bought the blind, it works, fits easily, very neat, but personally I think it is a bit fragile  . Had to send the first one back as the spring broke.
