Hi there, if you’re planning a Motorhome holiday to NZ in their peak summer and haven’t booked the inter island ferry you need at act now, restricted availability and increased fares. I understand a ferry is being taken out of service.

New terms coming in for bookings from 8th September. From then the NZMCA discount will not apply to the 8:45 and 14:15 sailings and fares for all services increased. You can still get discount on non peak sailings but availability may be impacted.

To get the best deal on the ferry you can book through NZMCA for discount of up to 50%. You can join now to get access to the discount but must be a member of a UK club if non NZ resident. I wasn’t a member of a UK club so joined the CCC for £53, NZMCA for $102 (£45) which then meant my crossing, with lounge access, reduced from $980 to $549 (£435 to £243) so overall saving of £94 plus gives me access to NZMCA sites and CL equivalents.

So if you’re in the process of planning and access to the ferry is required best act quickly.

Feel free to message me if you need any more info.

I was talking to someone a few years ago that had done both north and south New Zealand in a motorhome and his advice was to do the North Island in a car staying in motels or hotels, then cross as foot passengers and pick up a motorhome to tour the South Island.

We did North and South in a rented Moho.

Personally it was our preferred method as I don’t like being tied down to dates and times for accommodation.

We stayed mainly on NZMCA small sites on both islands and I think we saw things we wouldn’t have if using b and b with a car.

Each to their own though obviously 😊

There is also an alternative to the Interislander railways run service.
BlueBridge.
Have been on both...
NZMCA disscounts also apply to this service.
