Thread 'The disused railway line and voie vert thread' https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/the-disused-railway-line-and-voie-vert-thread.265926/

Located purely by accident but we knew luzech was 20 km cycle from Cahors and generally following the river. We found it on a half cycle day when we saw the bridge and hey ho it joined our cycle route.
It is not flat but is a cracking surface and long freewheeling was enjoyed without having to slog uphill butore of a soft gradient. It intersperses with bits of back roads until it suddenly stops after about 12 km when the road is the only option once you continued on the voie verte. The road has a dividing white line and as you get into Cahors and meet the KFC McDonald's roundabout, go downhill by the side of KFC cross the railway line turn left and although it is a footpath per service it is cycleable and brings you out on a voie vert alongside the river til you reach the town centre bridge.
We came back a different route which had a couple of slogging hills via Pradines and Douelle which was 4 km longer but still hugged the meandering river.
Cahors was as expected and there are a couple of aires there marked up.
Bosch batteries can be recharged in the tourist office free of charge and luzech also has free recharging we just don't know where !

Very nice, the weather looks pretty reasonable too (y)

Dawdling makes for a good ride, less accidents too ;)

Love Cahors, my mum had a house near there, first place in France we were served red wine from a fridge in a bar 🤔😳

Had a beer to follow, wine was too cold to drink let alone enjoy

It looks wonderful. Did you notice were there any bike hire places around?

Didn't notice any and Google unfortunately concurs.
There is a place 3.9 kms in the wrong direction and possibilities of Caix just up the road (maybe 1500 m) as there is a well used campsite up there in season

We drove through Cahors yesterday but decided to press on a bit.

Quite fancied a look round though as it, and its surroundings, are well described in Peter May's series of novels featuring Enzo McCloud as a Scottish bred retired Criminologist who is 'dared' to solve some Cold Case murders in the area.

Did you spot the little Devil demon on the Bridge in Cahors? :D

The legend of the Pont Valentré

Statue of a devilish imp, added during the 1879 restoration.
The construction of the bridge lasted 70 years (1308 to 1378). In local folklore it is said that the foreman, exasperated by the slow pace of the work, signed a pact with the Devil. In the pact the Devil promised to use his skills to expedite the work and, if he carried out all of the foreman's orders, then his (the foreman's) soul would be forfeit.

Having seen the bridge built on time, the foreman regrets his decision and issues a final order to the devil to go and collect water for the other workers using a sieve. In revenge for having been tricked, the Devil sends a demon each night to loosen the final stone in the central tower (known as the Devil's Tower) to ensure that the bridge is never finished and must be repaired each day.

During the restoration of the bridge in 1879, the architect Paul Gout inserted a stone bearing the sculpted image of an imp into the central tower. As a result, according to the updated legend, every time the Devil checks to see that his vandalism has been carried out, he is confused into thinking that the stone image is one of his demons tasked with dismantling the bridge.

First went to Cahors on a school exchange trip in 82, returned just before Covid and really enjoyed the city and surrounding areas.
