Off to France in June, visiting old neighbours near Carcassonne, then just over two weeks to get back to Blighty.
Thought we might do bits of the Loire Valley............but which bits?? Can’t do all 629 miles! Maybe do some chateau, some wine, don’t much like big cities.
Any thoughts welcome,thank you.

We picked out 4 chateaux we wanted to visit and worked around that. One was Chenanceau and we took a rowing boat out, another was Cheverney to see the hounds, a horse display at Chambord and Azay le Rideau just because it’s so pretty ......

The Cher and the Indre are worth a meander too ...

Blois is worth a visit, nice town, nice chateau visit and pretty good aire.

Amboise is a definite for the chateau, aire not bad on the island.

Saumur, good chateau visit, several aires and of course good local wine.

:wine:

Villandry is worth a visit .

Saumur, again for the wine caves,,,, but it’s far cheaper in the old hypermarcado:):)
We parked on the island campsite. You can sit for hours watching the river.

Excellent, thanks! After a glass or two I will probably fall asleep doing just that.:p:D

We stayed at Azay le Rideau recently loved the chateau there .

The bottled bits for me, particularly the pink.

this is one we always visit.. it does have guided tours of the caves www.robertetmarcel.com/en/

and if you want a good site with a great restaurant
Flower Camping Les Nobis d'Anjou
rue Georges Girouy
49260 Montreuil-Bellay

or there is an aire next door

As you see from the above most of it!!!. We visited Sancerre and Chablis 2 years ago they are very close together one vineyard had nice overnight motorhome parking (but we didn't use it) and a very extensive corkscrew museum!!!!. We stopped at St Emillion on the way up

Camping Municipal de l'Ile d'Or at AMBOISE is brilliant as is the town! :)

Lovely campsite called Camping L’Etang at Brissac Quince - a 20 min walk along a small river with a lovely Chataux in the small town

The campsite is a not for profit site, organic, has lovely pitches and has wine tasting....(y)

Also has a lovely swimming pool and small fishing lake. We stayed there last June for 3 days as part of our trip along the Loire.

Thanks, peeps, for sharing this info! Got to get the map out again now to see which ones we can fit in. I never get used to the size of France, despite having driven there many times!
Makes this weekend’s planned trip to Naaaarfuk seem a little dull but, hey,we’ll enjoy the fresh breeze off the North Sea at 8 degrees......won’t we?!:)(y)(y)

Provided you don’t present with a tag axle. That’s a big no no!

watching with keen interest as we will be in the loire valley mid may for a couple of weeks.

Montsoreau for a visit. There is a camp site there, with pool, bar and all facilities ...... camping isle green ...... We stayed there a couple of days last year to tie in with a weekend brocante fair. Also, not strictly Loire but just up the road on the banks of the Vienne is Chinon. Gorgeous place with a campsite overlooking the chateau...... ille d’Auger..... (y)

Thanks for that tip - we were heading south across the Loire, and ended up there. Good site (ACSI €16, and on a bike route)

We are at the Aire which is just outside the campsite. 12euros while 18euros ASCI inside. We visited the campsite about 5 years ago and I was told at reception that we were too late to order bread for the morning. Read some of the info for a couple of minutes and a French lady asked to order some bread which she managed to do without issue. A quick email ensured we got a load of bread in the morning dropped off with an email apology. Not been back. Off to M. LeClerc in the morning.

As previously mentioned, chateau Sully is beautiful, so is Chenanceux. Best to go places that are within easy reach.
