Challenger Genesis33
Hi folks,

I have 2008 challenger genesis

CBE electrical system (DB516 charger, DS300 12v distribution box & PC150 control panel)

When I left the MH on the MHU over night the leisure battery did not charge (note stored in a shed, no solar)

The battery is currently charging when left outside, via solar, and also is charging when driving.

I first thought the DB516 is not working, when switched on the light is illuminated, but the fan does not come on, I’m pretty sure there was always a slight drone sound from it before. Both fuses are ok, 230vac input is ok, however when and when the 12v molex connector is connected I was reading 12.5vdc, however when the connector is disconnected, therefore no link to the batter the output was 11vdc. Which is low right?

The connections to the DS300 12v distribution board appear fine, and I can read around 12.5vdc across both leisure and van battery.

All fuses were fine, specifically the battery to battery one.

Fuses appear ok in the boite security relais box.

230vac to other sockets are ok when on MHU

Anyone have any ideas?

Now the van is still under warranty from the dealership, we have had it less than a year, however we had an alarm installed by them (that was actually through a 3rd party) and we had so much problems and return visits to the dealership, i feel there is a bit of bad blood and i want to try my best before taking it to them!!!!

Thanks

Andrew

Check the fuses inside the CB 516

I wonder if the voltage is low when it’s disconnected Is because it can’t see the battery and is something to do with the 4 stage charging.

My fan appear to only run when it’s hot and under a big load.

both points could be correct,

but for some reason it wont change on MHU, thinking back it may have been like that for a few months,
when we are not going to be using the MH its parked up in a garage, and if its a couple of weeks the van battery is dead (alarm drain?) last time i left it hooked up for 24hrs thinking that once the leisure battery was charged it would charge the van battery (this has worked in the past) but there was still no charge, and had to jump start it, were in the south of france and when we are away in it we never really use MH, solar is fine,

I’m just looking through the DS300 & CB 516 manuals now.....no fault finding flow charts tho😢

Theres got to be another fuse somewhere or something simple......to explain it

The manuals don't say much in the way of troubleshooting,

I'm trawling through old posts on here trying to find a glimmer of hope,
its the fact i was getting the 11vdc out of the charger, with the output to the battery disconnected, therefore its not totally dead!

Yeah, strange the 11v thing.

If your battery is Lead Acid it looks like you should only ever see
14,1Vd.c. Max or 13,5Vd.c. Maintenance

How good is your leisure battery?

Its a varta 90ah, dont know how 'good' it is but when we had an issue with the solar charger last year, we could last 3 days ok before needing mhu when we were on holiday, with the solar we manage fine. It does loose some charge when parked up in the shed and unattached, but tbh if never questioned it, as its got us by...

Sounds reasonable enough....

I‘m guessing that the voltage at B2 doesn’t change at all when you turn the charger on and off?

No change of voltage at b2, whether the charger is off or on, the signal wire to connector 18 in the manual swiches and illuminates the mhu icon on the control panel ok

The board layout is a bit different,
The manual im looking at dosnt show the connection to the boite relais securite,
Im not getting any volatage across the red and brown on the boite, fuses ok

When the 12v circuit is turned off at the panel i get 12v on the boit

12v panel off and 230 on i get 1v at the boite

Both on i get nothing

If I remember correctly one of the boite relays switch when the control panel is turned on and the other switches when the engine is running to join the B1 & B2 together.

Pass, im not too sure, i get 12.5v on J1 in the boite beside the panel, if i pull the connection it kills the system (thin red/yellow) the other boite is beside the boiler, i get 12.5v on the circuit board side and 11.3 when i remove the conector and check the wires,

Thanks for your help so far!!
