If you have a large garage and able to store two bikes upright, how do secure them? Or do you have a sliding out sort of system.?

Colyboy

Thule do an excellent slide out bit of kit but it is VERY expensive. As above wedge them in and use ratchet straps to anchor points if fitted (but DO NOT over tighten them - you will pull them out of the floor!!!)

I strap mine to the rear wall with camlock straps my van has a track with eye bolts top & bottom on the rear wall. Racks take up too much garage space.

I just pack them with things like the awning so they can't move. The garage tends to get quite full when travelling anyway. There are some cargo loop bolts in the floor but never had to use them. A bunjee cord would also work well. Just tie the two bikes together propped against each other

Wooden frame holding the spare wheel in place. Fiamma bike rack fixed to the wooden frame. Because we’ve got e-bikes and they are quite tall, the rails on the bike rack reduced the available height too much so I took the rails off the rack and built a light wooden frame on the floor (which just sits on the floor and can’t move) to hold the wheels in place.

Photos aren’t great but you can see the frame.

The fiamma slide out gizmo is great- much easier when you have easier access to the bikes. Thule have another one that looks the business.

Google for fork mount adapter. Several makes, including Seasucker. Priced from about a tenner on eBay, up to thirty quid or so. Screw to floor, or a wooden board, mount by removing front wheel.

Exactly same method used by us. We have 2 screwed side by side to a slim piece of wood. Lightweight, no holes in van, very stable, cheap, and effective.

I have the Velo slide from Thule. It is brilliant as you can also slide them sideways after they are in.
Fiamma do something similar much cheaper but not the same quality.
I bought mine and had it fitted by Rhino Installs - you can see price with and without fitting in their website.

One thing I did that makes getting the bikes in and out of the garage a lot easier was to fit detachable pedals.

Strap them in and then pack every thing around them, then at the other end of your journey spend half an hour unpacking everything so you can get the bikes out. Leave the bikes out bit put everything back in the garage in case it rains or someone nicks it. Come back from bike ride and repeat. :roflmto:

Cheap bike rack off ebay, held inplace with heavy duty cable ties and then bikes secured using eyelets on either side of the garage.

We have folding pedals which solve that problem. Also tend to rotate the handlebar for easier access. Bungees to hold them but the garage is generally quite full!

Bungied to the straps that hold my real in place. 😎

We found a Fiamma Carry-Bike in the garage when we bought our Motorhome, It’s of no use to us so I was going to put it in the classifieds. Interested?

We have four 'floor to ceiling' posts(fitted by previous owner) and we ratchet strap them to forward pair.

I consider then they take up much less space than these specialist storage systems so leaving more space for other 'junk'

In any vehicle I consider ratchet straps as the only secure restraint. I am not sure whether Police and DVSA accept a 'Lorry hitch' on a rope as being legally secure now - anyone know?

It’s not the hitch they won’t accept it’s the rope itself as it isn’t tested whereas as strap is and is tagged.
I finished driving in the late 90s and I used rope most of the time unless it was round timber then I’d strap it.
Norhing finer than a tidy rope and sheet.
I’ll bet they don’t teach that on those DCPC courses 😂

Yes, detachable pedals make loading easier and allows you to get two bikes close together. Until you forget the box the pedals are in....
I fitted folding pedals, can't miss place them.

Tried them for a while but still have a space requirement and catch on anything. So I went to push on pedals, the number of times I have forgotten to fit them and got on the bike to cycle off... you don't arf feel a twit!
