Just realised posted in reverse order to when taken , it was sunset not sunrise 🤣

Tour didn’t really do it for me, but I have at least now seen inside šŸ‘ glad it was reduced price

I had already read most of what we were told , but I hadn’t realised it was made in Yorkshire šŸ‘

Inside it looks like it has been painted gunmetal grey, but I was assured it’s just not brushed like the outside šŸ¤”

I am grateful we weren’t expected / allowed up the steps 😁

Where is the best Motorhome overnight parking for the view ?

We combined our visit with the nearby Falkirk Wheel which has a similar facility but with access to showers an Elsa point and 10% discount for breakfast. Currently Ā£18 (we didn’t stay overnight here).

The two are linked by a canal side cycle/walking path.

Does the wheel operate through the winter? We should be up there mid October.

Ah, the Falkirk wheel. Yes it’s a fantastic piece of engineering but the boat trip up and down was the most boring waste of time I’ve ever done. Very underwhelming!
It was never going to be fast and exciting, it's all about its uniqueness (y)

Probably a bit like the Panama Canal. The first set of locks was quite interesting, after that it was mostly just tedious.
Sailing out into the Pacific Ocean was pretty cool though.

Wow - you must live a life of non-stop excitement!

It’s astonishing engineering; so to be able to easily get in a boat and directly experience it felt great - and when you return and you’re looking at a canal in the air that just ends abruptly, with the hills in the distance…

They also explain exactly what’s going to happen, so not sure how your expectations go so out of sync with reality, but each to their own. I thoroughly recommend it!

For those who enjoy the Kelpies you may also enjoy these, known as the Skelpies in Port Glasgow in memory of all the ship building that went on there.
I haven’t had the chance to see them in person yet but they do look impressive.
