On site in Wales testing new 390 Kampa driveaway awning. Broadly, love it but the instructions are best used for starting the bbq. Took nearly three hours when i reckon it can be done inside 30 mins with practice.

Anyhoo, it seems to offer multiple options for erection (fnaar fnaar!) but the one that suits our bus requires the use of Kampa Limpets.

Mixed feelings about these things. I find them easy to use but not exactly strong in even a modest breeze. Amazon do a clear plastic version but i wanted to ask Funsters whether they had found anything better or had tips for making them more robust (no, not superglue!)

I have been using these.

We bought a set of Limpets and found that their efficiency waned after a few uses and after going down the "tighten them a bit" route, most broke!

The remainder didnt even make my "they'll come in for something" drawer.

We were in Spain when the Limpets finally met their demise and a trip to the Chinese Bazaar produced some €0.99 50mm suction hooks, which, after a bit of fettling, worked admirably well!

Choked on my tea when i read the first sentence. We practice erections i the garden ooh er before venturing on site, can't help with the limpets although John does have some of the second ones from sonar s post no idea what for or how good they are.

I agree. Has anyone ever found metal versions? Or indeed a plastic that doesn't crumble when you look at it?

I tried to developer a through bolt with shallow counter sunk head to put through the clear plastic sucker then into the black housing. This would then stop the plastic screw bolt shiring after a few turns. Problem is that the thread used is not standard. A good friend I was due to meet a few weeks ago who is an engineer failed to show. The idea was for him to make some bolts for bn. Still on the ti do just. Once I get to meet with him he will soon make some bolts with the correct tap

If some enterprising soul could redesign the Limpet idea to make it unbreakable (aluminium? Kevlar?) and provide some meaningful adhesion, they would make a killing. As it stands, the Kampa Limpet is not reliable.

We use the Kampa Limpets on our Kampa 390 and have never had any problems with them, we do have the metal poles down the side of the van which add that little bit more of support.
