We’ve just crossed from Dover to Calais using the Irish Ferries ship Isle of Inishmore. P&O and DFDS eat your heart out, this is a quality ship. Proper fixtures and fittings; windows that don’t sound like they are about to fall out; huge enclosed observation decks at the back; a couple of decks with cabins. We didn’t use the restaurant or see the prices but it looked good. All in all a nice hour and half experience on a proper ship (or boat). Passports stamped and Covid pass checked by the French at Dover.

We used Irish ferries recently all went well.
pours was an older ship recently painted, window were in need of a clean but we assumed it was in mid reverb.

Having bigged up Irish Ferries we came back yesterday on P&O Pride of Canterbury, using a credit we had for a COVID cancelled 2020 trip. Not debating the rights or wrongs of P&O, but what an improvement in experience. The ferry was noticeably cleaner, still the same old furniture and stuff but it felt better. But the main difference was the crew, who actually made you feel welcome on board rather than the complete indifference encountered on our numerous other trips. Very few people on the ferry, just half a dozen motorhomes, maybe 30 cars and a group of French schoolchildren on bikes, blimey what a first impression of England cycling through Dover must be 😂. Easy at Calais, passports checked and stamped, van given a brief look though by the French.
