Hi All.

We are in the process of buying a W reg Autosleeper Gatcombe 2.4 Diesel.

It is a nice example of this old classic and we have paid handsomely for it.
I was told years ago that you could insure for purchase value rather than book price?
Cant remember the term for this now....can anyone help me out please?.....so I will be armed when talking to insurance company.

Thank you in anticipation.

Bill.

Hi Bill

I think the term you are looking for is "agreed value". I've previously had this on a self build VW T4. I was insured with Adrian Flux and I think the additional cost was about £15 (this was 3 years ago). I had to supply a number of photo's of the outside and inside of the van. This was then referred to the underwriter for consideration. So in essence, it was an additional insurance on the insurance

Yes agreed valuation I think is what you mean.
I have had one or two moho, and cars with tower gate via 2gether ins (other brokers available) a free add on.
Think I'm still a member of the classic camper club on paper
From memory a photo and a signature was all that was needed.
You then get sent a certificate.

Hello again.

Is there anybody looking at this post that could tell me what the Market value of our Autosleeper Gatcombe W Reg year 2000 2.5 TDi 66.000 miles would be worth?
It would help me greatly with trying to get the correct insurance......going to try getting Ageed Valuation quote.

Also can you recommend an insurance provider that will accommodate such a cover?

Thank you in anticipation.

Bill.

Thanks for your reply h1ghway1 (y)

That would be nice :giggle: in an ideal world.

Insurance as I understand it will only pay out according to the market value if written off....not what you actually paid for the van....unless you come to a mutual "Agreed Valuation" on the policy??

Yes I have agreed valuation which is actually a different policy, sent them 6 photos and my valuation which they agreed to. It gives piece of mind knowing it is in my opinion non negotiable if I write it off or somebody else writes it off for me

I have agreed value on my truck conversion, same as above I had to send x amount of pictures one had to be of the speedo to prove mileage because it is so low for its age.

Hi.

Winger Eggs

Thank you all for your input and answers.....much appreciated and very helpful (y)

Been in contact with "Safeguard'......but they are not able to offer the Agreed Valuation option.....they have suggested I contact AXA to discuss it further.

Having trouble getting through to them....will try again next week.

Have a great Bank Holiday all....and thanks again :giggle:

Have you tried the VW specialist insurers, maybe look on vw forums or the vw mags as the T3, T4, T5 based motorhomes are popular in the 'scene' now

We are with Adrian Flux insurance and they offer an agreed valuation policy and our van is an oldie but in great nick.
When I renew this year I will be using the facility again, but have no idea on renewal costs, but I seem to recall that the agreed valuation policy was around £45 extra and needed about 15 photos , all to be verified by myself.
I have also insured the contents seperately, as our van is left ready to go mainly, and at home, and I was astonished when I conservatively costed the essential contents, and what I had bought over the last couple of years which are needed, and this came in at around £4k to replace from new, mainly done to hopefully protect, should the van ever be stolen.
This is only my opinion, but the van and its use is a labour of love for us, but I am sure many people may overlook the cost of replacement of all the add-ons that we carry and would be costly to replace should their van be unfortunately stolen.
Just a thought.
Happy Motorhoming ?

I have my VW komet insured with justkamper best quote i got. I had insured with towergate for over 10years then got another motorhome and used my no clames on that while the VW was off the road. Then tried to insure it again with towergate but they didn't even come back with a quote.then rang justkampers and they insured it without any no clames for the same price as i had paid before with 10 years no clames and i now also get 10% off any parrts i buy from them, order parts before 3 and they are deliverd next day

Hi Capt and Tony.

Thank you for your reply.

Have now set up the insurance with "Adrian Flux" on an agreed valuation basis.
A few forms and photos to take and send off and we should be good to go.
Very helpful over the phone and easy to deal with.
Contents are covered up to £500.....easily cover our small array of bits n bobs.

Happy camping and thank you!
