As it says.

I'll be moving back to England shortly and wondering wether its worth bringing my van with me.
Its Hymer b644 2001.

Depends on import costs, road tax any other criminal costs I might have to pay wether I bring it with me or not.

So has anyone imported an older van before ?
I've also read about private imports where if you've lived in and owned the van from the country your importing it from then there's no costs involved !!!!

Tips or tricks about bringing my van back would be great.

Thanks in advance

Hi, can't help with Holland or the UK, but in Spain when you become residents you can bring a vehicle in within a short period as personal belongings providing you have owned it for I think 6 months. :D
Bob.

Do it before April 12th;)

Info here:

https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk

From a quick reading of it, you would just need to register it in the UK at a cost of £55, then MOT, insure (if not already done) and tax it (if over 3500kg it would be £165, up to 3500kg it would be around £230-ish ... not sure as the exact figure as I haven't had to pay this for a while!).

I would look at the value of your Hymer in Holland then compare with the same in the UK. :)
Our camper and car are more expensive in Spain, so would definitely sell here, if we ever decided to return. :D Bob.

:welco:
I've only imported new vans
There won't be any vat or import tax on your van.
I think you can register it just by having an MOT done worse case you will need an IVA inspection which costs £200. A vehicle of that age I don't think you have to do any mods too but if you do it will just need a mph Speedo dial £50, your headlamps can be set for flat dipping & Hymer's have twin rear fogs so lights are OK.

It might be simple because your a UK citizen, ;) just tell them your coming back and bringing your motorhome with you. Bob.

Easy. When I purchased our Hymer in Germany I drove it over on German export plates. Once in the UK you must inform NOVA online (hmrc) then change headlights, rear fog lights and speedo. Get an mot then fill in form v55 ( I think). 2 weeks later you should have your UK registration number. No vat on an old vehicle.

Headlights and fog lights I understand but why the speedo, I know what kph to miles is.
Is that a legal requirement or just one that you’d recommend

I don't think it will apply to a vehicle of your age but to import a new one the Speedo must be dual marked with mph & kph and illuminated by the dash lights. But for an MOT a kmh one is OK. In my van after being inspected I put my Kmh dial back in as is clearer and I do 90% of my mileage in mainland Europe.
