We started our 2 month schlep from Hook of Holland spending 3 nights by Keukenhof Gardens. Thought I would save some money and stay on a large car park near Lauwersoog. No signs stopped you from sleeping but on P4N a review said it was against the law after 10 pm. and the police had moved some on. Didn't tell my wife and we were the only motorhome other than - what looked to be - a van lifer parked right at the end.
An early night with absolutely no noise or passing traffic whatsoever. But could I sleep! Keep listening for anything outside the van, expecting a knock at any time. I ask myself 'was it worth saving e25 the cost of a local Aire??

It’s illegal to ‘wild camp’ / ‘stealth camp’ in the Netherlands, so you can be moved on no matter where you are. You can also be fined up to €500 PER PERSON.
Can you point to any official reference for this?

Lots of highly rated overnight parking spots on P4N (but then again, parking isn't camping... 🤷‍♂️)

I stopped for the night last year behind the dunes of a beautiful remote beach near Dunfanaghy in Donegal, told myself I was stupid to be anxious. Got hardly any sleep. No problems and I returned the next day to my family about 30 miles away.
The local tv news that night reported a drugs haul (with pictures of the package) had been found on that very beach!!
That does it….never again. Back to CLs and CSs!

Parked up many a time n oft in city centre streets that have no restrictions, in roads leading to retail parks etc if no yellow lines. Also occasionally on Salisbury plain, lochsides and forests in Scotland. Never had a problem but yes it was illegal in Holland so didn’t….

It looks like the law in Netherlands about sleeping in a Motorhome is very like UK (ie. local authorities make the rules for public spaces and you should seek permission of landowner otherwise) but it would be nice to have official reference.

I don't think its the parking being considerate to your surroundings, or in many cases sleeping overnight thats the problem in most cases. Its the silly people that park somewhere, especially car parks near beaches that set up tables, chairs and start BBQs in full view that winds everyone up.
Its like they are saying "up yours" to everyone, we do what we like, when we like, common sense & consideration for others to these people just doesn't exist, they have to be policed and told where the common sense line is, affecting all of us in the end.
We love to wild camp in the remotest areas possible when touring, but because we are touring we like to arrive late, leave early so even the locals don't now we have been there. We know some very quiet out off the way places we can stay overnight and we sometimes have been known to spend a couple of nights in the same place, but we are finding that if its on P4N then that seems to invite the overstayers, with campervans, with sperate tents out, kayaks, bikes and BBQ's, bon fires staying for entire weeks on end.
