Help folks, we/I am off next week so we planned to go away however we cannot get any enthusiasm up, bit like when you ask each other what do you want for dinner and neither of you fancy anything in particular. Mrs T retired last week and I am finishing end of April so maybe the brain is thinking why go away now when you have all summer etc.

We normally have a week over the water in EU this time of year but with the price of ferries/tunnel it is just not working out for just a week lowest I could find was Irish Ferries at £190 ging out Saturday afternoon returning following Sunday morning.

So we thought where can we go here, initially thought the Cotswolds but can't see much to do except look round pretty villages and Clarksons farm shop:unsure: so looking for inspiration where to go if anyone has any ideas?

Living on the east coast we mix our travels between Norfolk or the North Yorkshire coast or the moors. One of managements favourites is Northumberland. We have had a day at the open air museum at Beamish and then head north to Holly Island.
Derbyshire can also offer some nice places to visit with some nice railway walks.
There are nice sites or Britstops and pub stop overs in most areas. We occasionally use sites iff we need facilities.

You don't have to travel far, and you could even decide on two over nights somewhere plenty of walking in the countryside to be had.

What do you like to do?
We live in the Cotswolds - but never been to Clarkson’s farm!;)

How about Lincolnshire?
A couple of nights here and there, Woodhall Spa, nice campsite and good walks, maybe the cinema in the woods is open. Then a day at the spotters carpark at Coningsby full of interest at the moment and if lucky the Historic Flight will be getting ready for Easter displays.
Move on to Lincoln for a couple of mights, then Jim’s place at Sutton on Sea for some beach walks and fish and chips.
Coming from a different direction from you we also stopped at Rutland water but that probably out of your way.

Being members of both National Trust and English Heritage we did a week visiting as many places as we could in an area we hadn't previously explored - that season we defo got our moneys worth!

Another one for Northumbria. Beamish on the way up, then Cragside and Alnwick. The coastal area with castles, and if it is open the railway at Heatherslaw and Holy Island. If seas are ok a Farne Islands trip, and a dark skies visit to Kielder.

Any reccomendations for sites to stay (esp Beamish) looks like a lot are not open yet.

There is a site called Bobby Shafto (or there was a few years ago) but its a bit of a wet hikke through woods to Beamish. There's also a pub sat the entrance to Beamish where people have siad they had an oover night stop. Don't know it's name but I'm sure someone will come along and tell us.

What Annie said.
Woodhall spa is lovely. Have stayed a couple of times a Ivor’s place, Campney Grange. Fantastic cycling from the CL on the water rail way, Lincoln one direction, Boston in the other

Durham CMC for Beamish, there will be others in the area - bus into Durham as well, quite a nice city to walk in.

River Breamish CMC site for Cragside and Alnwick, there are others in the area.

South Meadows at Belford for Holy Island etc.

Coastal bus from Belford if you don’t want to try finding parking.

several Northumberland car parks now have overnight stays possible.

Not been to Kielder recently, but I would be looking at a wilding night there for the dark skies.

No doubt others will see this and share some as well.

How about fabulous Bath. The Bath Marina & Waterside park is an unsung gem. Easy access to Bath walking along the tow path or just get bus. The site is well run and pitches are all flat and nicely spaced out. Bath is probably the loveliest city in the country. You can’t see it all in a day but over a week you’ll spoil yourselves.

I just think to myself "that's an expensive ornament on my driveway there"..I then start to come up with ideas to use it.

Lancashire, Yorkshire, peak district, North Wales, Shropshire, Staffordshire...I could go on

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, going to Northumberland

Beamish - Tyne mouth - Cragside House - Alnwick - Bamburgh Castle - Berwick

Loads of places --- enjoy :drinks:
