Hi, I am sure many of you will have had issues and gained experience with faulty external locker locks. If anyone can offer advice it shall be appreciated.

One of my locks will no longer accept the key, it can not be fully inserted. I have run lots of WD 40 into it and left it overnight and the key will still not fully insert. The actually lock is in the open position and I have a key code.

  1. Can the lock barrel be removed, if so how?
  2. Can the lock barrel be replaced for one which is compatible with my key code, if so how?
  3. Any recommended places for replacement parts?

I have noticed a circlip at the opposite end to where the key is inserted.

Thanks

That looks like a Zadi type lock, you can get a barrel removal key if you need to replace it,
I wouldn't use WD40 on locks, graphite spray would be much better.

You would be better using brake cleaner or DFP cleaner to get the crud out of the barrel, the wd40 will let the crud build up.
Boiling water will also help shift stuff

As an update. I bought a Zadi barrel removal key for my 2014 Autotrail.
  1. Unlock the locker lock and insert the barrel removal key.
  2. With the barrel lock removal key inserted, give the removal key a firm push and you will hear a faint click as it is fully inserted.
  3. Its a snug fit the lock barrel is now released, leave the barrel removal key in and pull the lock barrel out.

I removed nine, a couple came out easily, but because on others I had not fully inserted the barrel removal key they did not release. After further attempts and improved technique (listen for the click when the key is fully inserted) all locks have been removed. These are the habitation door, water filler cap, and all locker locks.

I contacted the Autotrail manufacturers at Grimsby - they do not provide barrels to fit my numbered key. They will provide 9 lock barrels and two keys via a motorhome dealership. To get them from a local dealer its £63.

Having gone through this experience I can now remove all 9 lock barrels and refit them in about 20 minutes.

A locksmith recommended graphite powder for lubrication.

The fault I had on a lock barrel was simply the plastic red insert at the head of the barrel not sliding across fully so the key did not fully insert. I figure if one is a problem its likely they will all be in the future. I could just change the one barrel but then I will end up with more keys.

I did initially fully dismantle the lock by taking the 'T' handle off and removing the circlip at the rear but this was not needed on mine.

Problem solved and thanks to all who replied.

Not cheap mind, might be worth looking on ebay as I seen a set of 6 matching barrels for £32.

Or if you have a spare cylinder and want to change levers for lock, there's a walk through on a bike forum as the bike boxes use zadi locks. Look do able but fiddly

Leisure lines have very limited stock of matching barrels. the electricmotorcycle forum mentioned above was interesting but I went on from there to which explains how a lock barrel can be made to work with an existing alternate key. It also mentioned that any decent locksmith should be able to do this so off to Fortress Locksmiths in Brixton who said "no problem" and had it done within 24 hours. Note, there are some situations where they may not be able able to do it but I'm now the extremely happy owner of a fully keyed alike Moho again. BTW £30 for 2 locks plus a big tip!!
