Heading off to France and Spain tomorrow any funsters out there at the moment, I was wondering how busy Aires and Sites are.

nothing booked just going to wing it.šŸ˜³

Itā€™s ok not busy with britts but this is the busiest aire we have been on.
We are at the municipal aire in Blaye next door to chĆ¢teau marquis de vaubun free aire that is rammed full
Hence they are going on the expensive ā‚¬6 a night with electric site. About 60 vans parked so far

We have only been here two days so can't really help but we were on gravelines last night, half empty, and this one we are on now is just us and another van and to be honest it looks as if it could be their own.

The chateau aire was rammed 1 week and a half ago too. The municipal aire had about 15 vans on it. Worth the 6 euro for a bit of space and to avoid the sales pitch. Just my opinion but the Chateau sales leaflet (delivered to the aire by a bloke on an electric scooter) looks a bit tacky, a bit like one of those restaurants with photos of the food and where a waiter accosts you in the street to entice you to come in and eat.
I didn't visit so it's just my opinion of the sales leaflet.

We hadn't seen many UK vans up until 3 arrived to go to the Chateau.
We are now the only van on this CCP campsite. It's really nice and very peaceful. Nice village too.

Been in France a week. The free aires are being taken over by camping car with varying prices. I am sure there are still plenty of free locations though. We are using the 2017 edition of All the Aires France North second edition which details Charleville Mezieres as free. Not any longer. Still cheaper than UK though. Have a good trip. Must say though the camping car sites are immaculate. Tomorrow Sedan.

Been here 2 weeks now.... not had any problems on sites or free Aires.... top price we've paid so far is 14 euros on the acsi . :giggle:

As above, even in August we were only turned away frm one site as it was full. We never book apart from Paris.

I'm on the Le Lude municipal site, only about 8 vans and it has 88 pitches. So a tight squeeze šŸ™‚

We've just spent two nights on Camping-car site at Merlimont-Plage on the west coast, by early evening it was full (29 spaces).

From there we moved down to Le Treport, with it's Funicular, after reading about it on here.

There are two aires pretty much side by side, enough room for perhaps 50-75 vehicles, both absolutely packed, people waiting outside for spaces.

We made our way to a Camping-Car site at Flocques, a comfortable cycle ride to Le Treport, plenty of space and a very tidy aire.

Generally quiet unless your in a very popular tourist located. Ypres was rammed last few days but before hand and today no issues. No need to book really.
Not seen any other brits except at Ypres where it was like being at home šŸ˜³šŸ˜³

Been in France nearly 3 weeks, campsites are sparsely occupied but the few aires weā€™ve stayed on have been full.

Marseillan plage aire approx 60% full today. Generally 90%.

Working down the East Alsace, Lorraine and the swinging back via Dijon and West of Paris. No problem with some lovely aires. So far ā‚¬4 for water and ā‚¬2 for electric.

My top tip would be if you see lpg/gpl buy it, there seems to be a lack of it.

Damn, we had plans to go there on the 10th and 11th this month ....

Drove from Abbeyville to Challans (VendƩe) today and we both joked that we've never seen so many motorhomes on the move ....... Looks like we might struggle to do what we wanted to do, but will try to book the Chateau Marquis de Vauban in the morning.

Had a walk around last night and there were 40 vans crammed inside.
The aire that we are on over the road was also full.
English van pulled up at 8pm and was not allowed though there was some space but computer said no.
That said by 8.30 this morning 10 vans have left already. Just donā€™t leave it till late afternoon.

Thanks, I've just rang them to try to book for sat and sun night, but was told there was no need to book. Thanks for the suggestion to arrive early !! Can you recommend any other stopovers/sites - we are traveling with 'relatives' in their van who don't usually do Aires.

I've been reading reviews about the municipal and they arent complimentary about the toilet facilities. Are they really that bad ( I know we will be in motorhomes, but our fellow travellers prefer to use on site facilities for some reason ..?) I don't think they've ever stayed in an Aire so I want to be sure they're not put off Aires by their first 'experience'

ā‚¬6 is excellent value with electric and easy walking distance to citadel.

Mortagne sur Gironde aire at ā‚¬9.90 not far from here is still by far the best aire around here again need to get in early although we were there about 6 weeks ago and it was half empty for over a week

We have used CAMPING-CAR ex municipal Aires and to be honest they have been fine in fact the one at Grenade sur Lā€™Adour was better than some sites at 3x the ā‚¬12 they charge.
Just did 1 night at Saint Medard De Guizieres with toilet and shower clean and tidy next to river.
Do you have ACSI card?

Hi fragle
What van are you in?

They're both good value BUT what are the 'on site' toilets like ....

Yes we have an ACSI card ... (Kindly given to us by rebbyvid )

2017 all the aires is probably at best the equivalent of 2014 info. that's why nearly everyone uses web/apps these days. There are still lots of free aires but they tend to be in the less visited areas.
