Looking for Transit
Hello everyone, I'm completely new to this, on the lookout for Transit Autosleeper LWB. What are the main things to look out for ...presume bodywork & rust for a start ( budget or 1990's price bracket),but also wondering what level insulation (if any) can I expect(for overnight use) ,or, if insulation can be retro-fitted ? Any advice or info hugely appreciated. Thanks, Niall.

Hi and welcome to the fun, I had an Autosleeper transit the insulation was poor, I think most MOHOs had poor insulation then. It did have an eberspacher diesel heater which keeps the van warm but is too noisy to have on all night.

Welcome no idea on the insulation advise but sure someone will be along soon with advise.

We had an N Reg Autosleeper Duetto based on a Transit.
As others have said insulation and rust were the biggest problems. When the rust was repaired on ours some of the furniture had to be removed revealing the lack of insulation.
I don’t think other vans of that age were much better insulated from main dealers.

Old vans with poor insulation and with no 'vapour barrier' will rust behind the 'insulation' .. this is caused by moist air condensing on the cold metal walls..

so it's hidden.. until it becomes visible on the outside of the walls as rust bubbles..
