We are thinking (early days) of may be down sizing. I understand that I have to make compromises.

The van we are looking at is one with only two gas rings and NO oven. We have heard that a double skillet would replace the oven? Most of the time we are off grid

Can some one give me some advice on these products or may be some other ideas. Your comments would be most welcome.

We have had 2 double skillets for about 6 years, we bought them from the original lady who used to have a stall at most motorhome shows. We have the standard and a smaller one, which I don't think the current seller has. Ours have been in constant use and to be honest in our old van which had an oven we tended to use the double skillet. Our current van sounds like a similar set up to ours. We regularly cook whole chicken, toad in the hole etc. We don't miss the oven at all.

Had ours for over 25 years, the USP back then was you could cook a complete roast dinner in it, so I tried and you can! They make good baked potatoes as well. Very handy as a little oven and individually they make good toast, fried bread etc like most other pans I guess, the thing is with one of these you don’t really need any other pan in your van. Who is selling them now? as the non stick is battered on ours, think I’ll treat myself to another (y)

Was talking about the lack of an oven in our new van, had a skillet many moons ago but it is long gone. would like to get another so waiting to see where we can get one, might do a google search, but haven't exhausred my catch up on here yet.

They are very good, we have one of the new ones, at the very least it does give you much more flexibility, and of course you can use each pan as a normal boiling or frying pan so you can cut down on those. When you use it as an oven, it tends to cook wetter, which can be a good thing. It is of course a new mode of cooking, you'll soon find what works for you. Go for it. And we do have an oven!
