I have had this cover for my cv for the past 3 years whilst the van was laid up unused pending MOT work and repairs . It costs a mere £50.00 a year for TPFT cover whilst stored or parked on private land...ie driveway, private road, estate etc . The cover is with ERS Insurance who were formally RH Insurance who are essentially a classic vehicle insurance Company. I hadn't realised that this kind of cover was available until it was suggested to me by ERS.

Naturally you cannot drive the vehicle on any Public road but you do still have the reassurance that the van is covered in the event of of fire, theft or other damage without having to stump up for a full comprehensive cover whilst not in use.

It was how in the olden days you could help with your no claims discount

Unlikely that loophole still applies

talking of NCB thats another rabbit hole it seems to me. I've been insured with the current campervan for 12 years but apparently although I have never claimed for anything I cannot use any NCB accrued because it can only be applied to a single vehicle ie my car ? Why is that when all my vehicles are insured with the same Insurers .......

We found it cost several hundred pounds more for our cars to be covered in our garage at home than it was to keep them insured and on the road!! they said because as no no claims on laid up insurance !

That used to be the case with motorhomes, but not any more. Some mirror your car NCD and others allow you to build a second NCD. Beware multicar insurance with just one NCD, as an accident on any vehicle insured immediately affects all the others. Yes it is similar with separate policies but it has less effect and only on renewal
